    Chickens love them!
My chickens will follow me anywhere for these!Quality/freshness: The bugs are high quality, as fresh as a freeze dried bug can be.Appearance They appear to be all intact, not crushed, the bag isn’t mostly bug dust like some others. They don’t stink like some freeze dried bugs I’ve tried in the past. They look good!Amazon is prompting me to comment on taste, and thickness – I’m not willing to try one just for this review, but I’ll take my chickens word for it – they go nuts over them so they must taste great if you’re a bird! Even my bearded dragon likes them. They’re thicker than a mealworm. You get 10 lbs for a great price.

    Good source of protein
I’ve ordered black soldier fly larva for both ducks and chickens over the last couple years and keep going back to this specific type. The birds love them and it’s a great price for the quantity! I accidentally left it in the pen with my ducks once and they tore the bag open and gorged themselves. The egg yolks were VERY rich after that.

    Excellent quality!
These are not meal worms, but nice and fat soldier fly larvae as labeled. Their shorter, fatter shape makes them muchmore durable than meal worms. The product I received was in great condition with whole larvae, not a bunch of short broken pieces and crumbs. My bird feeders are mobbed when I put these out. They’re a great value too.

    Great product and value!
The girls love them and so do robins, grosbeaks etc. i mix it into the 30 lbs of birdseed and dole out daily. It provides something for all the fowl.

    Bluebirds LOVE this stuff!
We’d been feeding the bluebirds coming to our deck feeder with dried mealworms for years in our Atlanta middle-class residential neighborhood, when we suddenly noticed in 2024 that Black Soldier Fly larvae had come on the market. They’re cheaper than mealworms, so we were interested. We read a lot of reviews before switching to Black Soldier Fly larvae, because we buy the ten pound box/bag to save money. Ten pounds of dried larvae is a lot to have to throw away if the birds won’t eat it. We now know that bluebirds love these dried goodies. The only thing they like better is live food. Since bluebirds are year-around residents. we feed them all year. Other than those relatively short periods when the soil is moist and live insects are plentiful, bluebirds come to our feeder all year. We regularly host three breeding pair, with occasional visits from a fourth, and this is in the city. We have no idea where they’re nesting, but we have noted that they come in from different directions. If you have bluebirds within foraging range, they will come. During nesting times and cold times it’s not unusual to see all three pair at once, lined up, either to eat or to grab a mouthful to carry back to the nest. A ten pound box lasts us about nine months on average. Oh, be aware that wrens, titmice and other birds small enough to fit through the bluebird sized wire mesh protecting the feeder from squirrels will be your guests, too. The don’t eat much.

I’ve ordered these twice now and our chickens love them!
I’ve ordered these twice now and our chickens love them! They’re a great treat and they’re also a good protein boost for our hens who forage in the yard every day. Unlike other treats I’ve ordered in the past the chickens are never tired of eating these. I’ve also given them to my koi and the koi like them too!Note: They smell bad to people but the chickens don’t care.

Great product – birds love them!
The product quality gets a “5”, the price and packaging is a “4”.I use mealworms in bird feeders and as a treat with my chickens. The product seems fresh and the birds are going crazy over the meal worms. About three hours after filling my feeders, they were completely empty. I saw birds that I haven’t seen since the summer (Eastern Bluebirds and Orioles)!Obviously the word traveled fast on the bird network!I would love for the manufacturer to change the inner bag to a ziploc style to keep the worms fresh. I ended up repackaging this into multiple gallon sized ziplocs.I have just put this on subscribe and save!
