The Heller Black Master is a finely toothed rasp, similar to the Red Tang. This rasp is especially well suited for hard, dry hooves. The Black Master differs from the Red Tang through the addition of an extra coating that ensures the material is released from the rasp more easily and makes it more wear resistant. This rasp is suitable for many horses and particularly those that spend a lot of time outside where the hooves accumulate sand and mud that can have a negative impact on the wear process of rasps. The file side of the Heller rasps is sharp, enabling efficient removal of material with little effort.

Works great!
Beautiful, strong, sharp rasp. Use on my mustang who has thick hooves and this is the first rasp to truly trim his feet! Love it – a pro rasp for sure!

Sharp and long lasting
I’ve had this rasp for 1.5 years now and it’s been great. I have 1 horse that I trim. She is a rescue and had severe issues requiring her to be sedated for farrier work. I no longer have to sedate her and I work a tiny bit on her feet every time I’m out so the rasp is used frequently, if not for long periods of time. I did not purchase a handle; I always just wear good gloves. I tend to leave my tools on the ground for short periods of time so they get dirty/muddy. I gave this rasp a dab of Absorbine Hooflex (any oil based product wold have worked…it was just what I had on hand) and it hasn’t rusted at all and is still very sharp. I have smallish hands and some strength/arthritis issues yet I still find this rasp to be a great tool.

Super sharp for fast trimming!
I frequently rasp my horses’ hooves between farrier visits to keep them from chipping and cracking. The difference a new, sharp, quality rasp makes is amazing! Literally a few swipes, and boom, you’re done! I had purchased a different brand new rasp last time, and I may as well have been using a cheese grater for all the effect it had. Just one note… when using this, wear heavy leather gloves! It will shave the skin off your hand before you feel a thing, and it’s very easy to do. Excellent product.

This rasp works so good! Just be careful, it works so good that it will take a lot of foot off really fast so dont go overboard.

This rasp is fantastic! If youâre looking for a workhorse that is going to take off a lot of foot quickly this is your guy! This Rasp is SHARP and stays sharp! Do not use without gloves, or you will cut off your knuckles. Use your gloves! I will never not have this in my tool kit from now on.

ordered two files but they were shipped in a paper envelope rather than a cardboard box which I have received them in before. Files have a metal handle point and shipping them in a paper bag caused the bag to tear and one of the two files to fall out somewhere in the shipping. Contacted Amazon and they are shipping me the second file that I had already paid for on this order for two files so I’m not out the $44. Product itself is a 5 star but the fulfillment center gets a one star for poor shipping package choice for something with a metal point and paper container.

WHY can’t all file makers produce files like this? I use this on wood, and it files a true flat surface, not like some that every burr follows the last in each stroke creating ridges that you need another file to get rid of them. Excellent product. keep the wrapper to protect and store the file. Check out Heller products for other models.
