After cooling, soak the wood for 24-48 hours to prevent floating when placed in the aquarium. Customers say

Customers appreciate the cholla wood’s beautiful natural patterns and find it perfect for various tank sizes, including 10-gallon and 20-gallon aquariums. Moreover, the wood is well-liked by shrimp and baby fish, and customers consider it worth the price. However, the size receives mixed feedback – while some find it great for smaller tanks, others note the diameter is disappointing. Additionally, customers disagree on the wood’s cleanliness and floatability.

    Don’t be impatient…I use it.
Love this wood and have bought many from this seller. They do come dirty, but that’s how you know it’s real wood. Just soak, rinse. Takes time to sink, but can use weights if too impatient, then super glue some moss to hide the weight. Last along time and also grows biofilm for a snail and shrimp snack. And baby fry can hide. Will most likely be back for more. I use it in all my tanks.

Loved by my shrimp and me
Got these for my shrimp to hide in and they are indeed doing that. They look great in the tank. You need to follow the instructions on the package – boil then soak for a few days. They stay put in the tank and are awesome. For those of you complaining that they are small, it IS clearly stated in the description what size they are…….

Anchor your plants in these to make aquarium vacuuming a breeze, baby guppies love it!
Update:I’ve been using these to anchor my plants now for months, and they are doing great. The plants are so healthy, I have to trim them every few months so they don’t grow out of the top of my 29 Gal aquarium. When I had plants anchored in my rocks, they would die back each time I vacuumed the aquarium, but this is no longer an issue. I’m trying some new plants, so needed a few more pieces of wood. I’ve found that I can use a drill bit to carve out larger holes in the wood for my plant roots. If you use a toothpick in the existing cracks around the hole you carved, it will make the hole a little larger so you can insert the plant roots, then remove the toothpick, and plant is very secure in a decorative anchor.Love these. You do need to soak them a few days to make them sink, and I did notice some tannin colors leaching out in that water as I changed it daily, but that small inconvenience is well worth it. I have checked my PH as I have bought the Cholla wood before, and it seems stable quickly, but do check your water PH (as always). My guppies loves these and the babies hide inside. The main reason I love them is that they have little holes in them and the wood is soft, so you can easily use a knife or any hard object to scrape in the hole to make it big enough to insert plant roots. Once you have your live plants anchored, they grow really well, and vacuuming your tank is a breeze, since you can just push all your plants anchored in the wood (and not your rocks) to one side of the aquarium and then vacuum the rocks on the opposite side of the aquarium. Many times in the past, I have had beautiful plants and when I vacuumed, I would disturb the roots and they would die. I did buy some aquarium epoxy stuff (for coral) that hardens quickly and is safe for one plant with a large root ball, but most of my plants will fit easily in the holes in the wood, and because the holes are long and vary in size, once you insert in the the hole where you made the larger width, just slide right or left to the smaller opening to anchor easily. Some plants are so large that they cause the cholla wood to float a bit, just push some rocks inside the cholla at the opening at the other end and that problem is easily fixed. I would give this 10 stars if I could, LOVE IT.

    Excellent size/shape, just very dirty
Excellent quality in terms of thickness. Save yourself a ton of time and scrub them with a stiff cleaning brush after the first boil.

    So Cute!
These are very small, ideal for shrimps. My little colony loves these little logs. I boiled them for about 20 minutes, then let them soak in distilled water until the sank to the bottom. Love them!

    Perfect for my needs.
These cholla sticks are very good. Arrived clean and well packaged. On the small side, but I knew that going in. I lived in the desert until recently and had access to all the free cholla wood I could ever want, but found myself needing some for a craft project. These worked well. You can bet that next time I head out West, I will be coming home with a stack of it!Happy with this purchase.

I love them, but they may be killing my tank
These are beautiful, give lots of extra surface area for bio filtration, make excellent hiding places and ladders, and they look absolutely beautiful… But, they need to be soaked prior to putting them in the tank so that they will sink and, more importantly, they have made my tank incredibly cloudy. There is a living layer of gel coating them all at least 2mm thick. Clear and white. It took a day to for this to happen. Both the gel and the cloudy water. The fish do not seem to mind, but I have hardy fish that are used to living in tough conditions in the wild. After almost two weeks(and a large container of activated carbon directly in the tank), the water is getting slightly clearer and the bio film on these is getting a little bit thinner. I probably should have soaked these to death before putting them in. With aquarium water from a well established tank with some of the substrate taken out and put into the soaking vessel, not tap or even dechlorinated water. So that the bio film could eat all of whatever is feeding it. I have no algae eaters, plecos, ottos, shrimp, or even snails, so I don’t know if it would be any different with something like that in the tank, but the only difference I could see happening is that the bio film would get eaten. I will post an update when the water clears or if it never does.Update: They have stopped making my water cloudy as of a day ago, but they are now slowly disintegrating. Apparently they can’t withstand standard freshwater tank microorganisms

Looks real nice for my new shrimp tank. I boiled it for 40 minutes and left it overnight. They are now sunk in. Shrimps love it!

Very disappointed and feeling ripped off. Might be 4 inches long (just), but so narrow they’re useless. NOT WORTH THE MONEY. DON’T BUY.
