Customers say
Customers find the light bulb provides good color rendering, making their aquariums look nice, and works well for planted tanks with plants doing great. However, the brightness receives mixed feedback, with some saying it provides adequate light while others find it not very bright. Moreover, the bulb’s durability is concerning, with multiple customers reporting it breaking on arrival and not lasting more than 3 months.

Good choice for “true” color rendering
I like that the manufacturer specifies the color rendering index for this, since accurate color rendering is what I’m after with this bulb. I paired it with a Power Glo 18,000 Kelvin bulb to blend in a deeper water effect. Happy with the results with a 55 gallon Malawi cichlid tank.

Working
Plants seem to be doing better but I added co2 and fertilizer at the same time so my results can’t be based on the light alone. With a name like ultra sun trichromatic super daylight I would expect a really bright bulbNot the case.

Great for a planted aquarium
I have been trying to develop a planted fresh water aquarium over the years and have had varying luck until I tried these lamps. They have made a tremendous difference and my tank now contains flourishing plants. The lights are on about 14 hours a day and they need to be changed about every 6 months for full efficacy. The tank is completely stable now and requires very little care. Be careful when ordering from Amazon. If you click on the 24″ size be sure that this is what ends up in your basket – for a while the size would change from 24″ to 18″ due to some problem with the link

fish and plants love it
shopped long and hard for these bulbs, as the hood of my tank is very picky as to the type of bulb and watts it will take. well needless to say, I am very happy with this choice. my plants are doing great (growing), and just a side note, i do have a layer of substrate, now i don’t know if this helps, but sure cannot hurt. my fish seem to enjoy it as well and during most of the year, don’t need to use a heater in my tank, stays about 76 degrees (F), 30 gallon tank.
