Included in this pack is 1 x 5lb Bio Substrate – activated bacteria seeded substrate, and 1 x 10lb dry aquarium substrate. Diamond Black Quartz Gravel is the Rolls-Royce of our range. Natural Quartz not only looks wonderful but has also been shown to help reduce the build up in the aquarium. This is partly due to the huge surface area of quartz which offers added space for the establishment of tank cleaning bacteria. Quartz sparkles underwater due to the many light reflecting facets and looks like diamonds have been added to your tank. Adding the Bio Substrate to the dry substrate will create an instantly cycled aquarium, it contains a patented blend of live nitrosomas and nitrobacter bacteria which break down and convert harmful ammonia into nitrates.

This is a good gravel, very fine but not sand. Very dark black that contrasts neon colors, easy to use not too dusty on setup

Very good substrate!
This substrate is excellent! I DO recommend rinsing the dry substrate several times before mixing with the bioactive substrate though, because it leaches black die/dust particles and will cloud up your tank. Do NOT rinse the bioactive substrate. After rinsing the dry, i mixed the substrates per directions and placed in the bottom of an empty aquarium. I added my plants and used my fluval C2 filter from my existing 10gal tank to improve the speed of the cycle (already had bacteria in it to help break down the nitrites and ammonia). I also added some Flourish fertilizer to aid the plants. After about a week, I added the driftwood (after rinsing and boiling many times) and cycled another couple of days. I tested the water everyday throughout the cycling to monitor nitrates, nitrites, and pH levels. After a total of 9 days from start to finish, my tank water was perfectly cycled and ready for fish. As you can see in the picture, everyone is happy and healthy and my tank is beautiful!

great substrate
very nice substrate, easy to clean and looks great. however, even though its prewashed and screened, do your self a favor and rinse the substrate out anyway before adding and cycling your tank. there was small debris in it and the rinsing water came out visibly brown tinged for 2 rinses. not a deal breaker as it is very nice substrate, and 2 rinses was all i needed to do which is much better than other substrate

Amazing Tiny Gravel!
If youâve decided against sand and are looking for an alternative, I highly recommend this substrate. Have it in 3/4 of my freshwater aquariums with 6 different species of fish and some mystery snails. Very tiny so works with my cories. Rinsed the non-bio bag in a bucket with tap water for less than 15 minutes, then combined it with the bio substrate and into the tank. Water was completely clear by the next day. Helped jumpstart my cycle along with some used filter media. Highly recommend. Just make sure you read the back of the bag and get the ratio right when mixing the two bags.

Excellent addition to tank!!!
I’m a very nervous person when it comes adding stuff to my aquarium. I don’t want my fishies to die. Fish are very sensitive when adding something new to aquarium like stressing, or plain don’t like it and start heading toward the light. But I tried this out and I’ll say can’t be any more happy. Fishes look happy and talk looks amazing. P.s i did not have none in the tank floor just bare glass. But I do recommend just please make sure you wash the dry one plenty of times till your cleaning water is clear and not brown or black. Other than that go on added to your beau fish environment

I changed out the old blue unnatural gravel in my betta tanks to this new gravel. My tanks look much better now and much more natural. I used both the dry gravel and the bio gravel packs, about half of each bag for each tank and it was just enough for my two 5.5g tanks to have around a 1.5-2 inch layer. I also like that the grains of this gravel are smaller than those of my old blue gravel, and are mostly rounded and smooth.

This item is listed as two items. One bag of regular subtrate and one bag of bio subtrate. I only received one bag. My son is super disappointed that we have to send this back. Not paying $40 for one 10lb of gravel.
