Coral Sun is a high intensity actinic lamp with strong emissions in the short wavelength region of the spectrum, peaking at 420nm. It promotes growth of zooxanthellae algae, essential for the growth and well being of all photosynthetic corals and invertebrates. This bulb simulates the short wavelength blue light which penetrates to reef depth in nature. Output closely matches the absorption peak of chlorophyll used in photosynthesis. Ideal for all marine aquariums or reef tanks. Zoo Med’s line of fluorescent aquarium lamps are made in Europe for ultra high quality, color, and longer burn life. Our energy saving T-8 sizes can save you up to $30.00 per year in electricity over the thicker T-12 size lamps. Effective up to 10,000 hours.

Great Addition to My Aquarium Lighting System!
I have a 120-gallon freshwater aquarium with a few large shubunkins and a mix of artificial and live plants. The aquarium was lit by a pair of 24″ 8000k fluorescents in separate 30″ hoods, set end-to-end over the length of the 5-foot long tank. I purchased a pair of these ZooMed Coral Sun Actinic bulbs primarily to provide some supplemental lighting for the plants. I installed them in an additional pair of 30″ hoods. The addition of the blue light output from the ZooMed bulbs to the existing 8000K fluorescents, really made a difference in the overall color balance. The gravel and plants took on a more natural, less yellowish look and the colors of the fish were also enhanced. So, in addition to helping the plants, the aesthetics were much improved as well. In the evening, I shut down the 8000K bulbs and just leave the actinics on for awhile before turning everything off for the night. The ZooMed actinics provide a cool moonlight effect when used by themselves. Great product and highly recommended for my application.

Will repurchase in future.
Bulb arrived the day it was promised. Well packaged. New, of good quality. It is a blue tint, which I did not realize. My corals seem to be reacting well to it.

Awful
This purchase became the catalyst to me LED switch. I’ve purchased actinic bulbs in the past and never had one quit after a day. I thought for sure my light fixture died, but after using another bulb it still worked great. I get the blinking, but it was ridiculously dull to begin with then nothing. Fish in the dark all swimming around as if no one loves them. I truly just wanted to take it in the backyard and stomp the bulb back into nature. What a waste of money…

Great bulb for a very shallow tank
the bulb is doing what I want it to do. I have 150 watts LED reef lights that have very bright Blue. I use this bulb to simulate sunset and sundown for my tank.
