Great value for a powered, but gentle filter
I have been super happy with this very functional, powered sponge filter. I have a 20 gal tank with a HOB filter, but I wanted a backup system, and since I’m slightly overstocked I needed the extra filtration. It was super easy to set up, and unlike other sponge filters it is actually powered by an internal water pump which draws water through the sponges and across the filter media before pushing it out a spout near the top. No messy air hoses. No loud air pumps on the table top. Just quiet, powered filtration!The air bubbler design is very clever. The top of this filter is designed to sit a few inches below the water surface, and a short air hose is attached like a periscope to the pump’s outflow spout under the surface. Air is drawn through the tube and into the water by the water rushing out the spout. Gives a nice amount of bubbles for my 20gal ecosystem.My shrimp love the “twin towers” of sponges. They all hang out in each one of its levels; it’s the perfect simulated ‘rocky shelf’ environment for them. They have bred and multiplied themselves within a few months of owning them, and the babies do not seem to have any problem with the flow through the sponges….it must be very gentle. I’ve owned this filter less than 6 months – but so far it seems a fantastic value for it’s function!

To powerful for anything under 20 gallons!! Small fish having a problem swimming. My fish is playful when I used it without the top part plz look at photo.The water drops down and produce lot of bubbles= (Air) . and the sound is like a real waterfall= (happy).Plz listen to the sound on the videoMost important thing is that me and fish are happy.

I browsed the lot of this specific style on Amazon, brand by brand, and this brand specifically caught my attention because the negative reviews o saw only really mentioned basic overtime wear or easy fixable situations (suction cups, lightweight etc)-I myself had no issues whatsoever. Sponges were rinsed and soaked before turning on, filter media was rinsed before putting in the canister (it fizzed up almost like Alka-Seltzer so I was confused at first) but when I tell you this filter cleaned my water (from disturbing the decor/plants which kicked up a bunch of debris) in maybe 5-6 minutes of operation, I was astonished!Another thing I want to notate that the air intake tubing it came with was SO small, I had to use a piece of replacement tubing I had in my cabinet to re-tube it. So they should probably consider adding a longer tube in the box so the customer can have short/long option in tubing.This is a great sponge filter and I will be purchasing again!

Air pump is great, filter doesnât work.
Ive had this filter in my tank for about 3 weeks. The air pump is great, I really like how you can adjust the speed / pressure. However, the filter just doesn’t work. My tank is extremely cloudy and Iâve had several fish pass away due to high levels of Nitrate. Looking at the filter, theres little to no signs of anything actually being cleaned up by it. I purchased a separate filter elsewhere, and it helped immediately which leads me to be 100% sure that this filter just didnât work at all. Itâs frustrating and a huge bummer. Please donât take the gamble.

Best sponge/media filter for the money
This is definitely one of the best sponge/media filters I’ve used. It’s very easy to put together and set up in the tank. The suction cups work great, media is nice to have along with sponges, and nice to have the adjustable neck for the return line for the surface agitation. Very well done! 10/10.
