quite *meh*
This isn’t an excellent book, nor is it an awful one, but rather one very much in between. I usually don’t write reviews for items in that category, as it’s difficult for me to get up the energy to do so — no strong feelings either way. I do, however, want to make a few points here. First off, I did *not* like Ginger, the cat, and I bought this all because there was a cat character. (I love cats.). So, when I saw right away that I didn’t like him, well, that wasn’t good… Yes, the book description described him as sarcastic (or whatever), but I guess I didn’t take that in enough, as I wanted to enjoy him anyway. But I did not. (Who wants to be around creatures — human or feline — that are like that??) Something else that bothered me was the rather down beginning to the story, with poor old Jim having such a tough time. I get it — spouse do die, we do sometimes get fired, etc., etc., but I found it all a downer. I believe I understand why the author made those choices, but IMO they could have been handled better, or certainly more briefly. It all dragged on too long for me.While Jim starts to pick up again (and good for him), I never was able to really get uplifted by, or involved in, the story. I quit last night shortly into Chapter 17 and I won’t pick it up again..Wish I could be more enthusiastic, but I can’t

I absolutely loved this book, what a beautifully written and gripping story. I stayed up long into the small hours two nights running as I couldnât put it down. The descriptions of the town and the seascapes are so vivid, you almost feel like you can smell the salty sea air yourself, and the conversations are witty and engaging. An ingenious framework all round, and a jolly good read at that!

New author for me. Definitely a different cozy mystery and yes I enjoyed it. Easy, laid back reading, humour and a mystery to think about. Iâll be getting #2 in the series.

Easy cozy mystery. It had humour, great characters and a good mystery. A enjoyable book. Will be reading number 2 .

The cat Ginger was a great character. And Jim seemed to grow throughout the book. My main criticism is the overuse of the word âchuckledâ. Quite annoying by the end.
