Have you ever been frustrated with dead crickets?

We were! We were always getting dead crickets.

After years of shopping around, testing other species, and learning more about crickets, we found Banded Crickets Gryllodes sigillatus! These crickets ship well all year long; they weren’t dying when the temperatures would spike a little bit, or if the temperatures unexpectedly dropped. In most climates, they would consistently arrive alive and fresh.

They were also living much longer than other species we had experience with.

What benefits do banded crickets have for my pets?

All crickets are bred and raised to provide you the best quality feeder insect. These crickets also naturally contains more protein compared to other species of crickets, which is important for building and repairing tissue in your pets!

But what if they don’t all arrive alive?

Our goal is to get insects to customers that are alive on arrival every single time! We understand that sometimes because of extreme temperatures, handling mishaps, or shipping mistakes that just doesn’t happen. For the times when your live items don’t quite make it, we have a generous 3 Day Life Insurance Policy* on all live insects!

How are they packed in the winter when it is cold?

When the temperatures drop we switch over to cricket boxes that do not have vents. These boxes do a great job holding body heat from the crickets in the box, keeping them toasty during their winter travels. They also eliminate potentially fatal drafts!

The boxes are not airtight, and crickets can still breathe in the box. As oxygen levels decline, the crickets slow down their metabolism and movement. This state allows them to survive shipping. We’ve had them last over 2 weeks this way!

cricket size guidecricket size guide

When choosing the size of your feeder insects, we recommend choosing insects equal to or less than the distance between your animals eyes. If you choose insects larger than that measurement, the animals can have difficulties consuming or digesting the feeders.

    Great quality!
Only a few dead and as long as you take out the dead ones quickly, they are, and stay, very healthy. I would advise a warning on the box though that they are just in there, not in anything!

    Great crickets
These not only arrive alive (minus a few) in the dead of winter, the crickets live much longer tab the pet store brown crickets. They are much livelier as well.

    Wildly impressed
I was hesitant about ordering crickets – I’m the guy who goes to the local pet store to buy crickets for a serious upcharge because they die quickly anyway.I pulled the trigger and bought 250. Sadly I wasn’t home when it was delivered and the box sat it in the heat for a while. I was heart fallen and tried to get home as quickly as possible. But when I opened the box to see see, not a single cricket was dead. It was….. Amazing.I rehoused them into a critter keeper with food + such, and they were super energetic. I fed my crested geckos, who LOVED THEM, and saved the rest.Next day I came back in expecting the crickets to be half alive and half not, like the over priced ones I buy from the store, but no…. They were All doing well. It was… Shocking. The shipping packaging of the box was so great, there were airholes and lots of room for the crickets to be safe. They just got themselves a new customer! No more going to the store, it’s these guys only for us from now on!

    Dead Crickets!
This is the second shipment I have received where almost all my 250 crickets were dead! The first batch I was thinking maybe they got to hot. It wasn’t over the 85 degrees they said, but maybe somewhere along the way on the hot truck it got to hot. I gave them another shot after and again a shipment of dead crickets! I had just 43 crickets out of 250 alive and pulled three of those dead this morning. I know the temps were not to hot and considering temps in MO were in the 60’s-70’s this week it was not to cold. These ship from MI. Where the temps are probably cold this time of year, however why not put a heat pack in it if they can’t get out of your own state without getting to cold? The times I have ordered and a heat pack was supplied, my crickets were alive and healthy. I understand to hot and to cold, but it was not hot and no where near less than 20 degrees. So in my case it was a waste of money to by dead crickets. Even the ones at Petco are alive. They suck, but not dead!
