Welcome to Charon’s Crossing.
The tea is hot, the scones are fresh, and the dead are just passing through.
When a reaper comes to collect Wallace from his own funeral, Wallace begins to suspect he might be dead.
And when Hugo, the owner of a peculiar tea shop, promises to help him cross over, Wallace decides he’s definitely dead.
But even in death he’s not ready to abandon the life he barely lived, so when Wallace is given one week to cross over, he sets about living a lifetime in seven days.
Hilarious, haunting, and kind, Under the Whispering Door is an uplifting story about a life spent at the office and a death spent building a home.

Redemption and found family
I donât recommend reading the official blurb for this book as it gives away WAY too much about events that happen way far into the story! Like ¾ of the way into the book! Who does that? Luckily I had only read the first couple sentences and read the rest after I finished the book. So donât do it! All you need to know is that selfish and cruel Wallace dies suddenly at age 40 and a reaper, Mei, takes him to a tea shop in a remote area where a ferryman, Hugo, is meant to guide him to the afterlife. Wallace puts off crossing over, instead taking his time coming to terms with his life and death, and getting to know Mei and Hugo (who are alive), and Hugoâs grandad and his dog Apollo (who are both ghosts). Itâs a redemption story with a found family and a little romance and I thought it was just wonderful! This book was pretty slow to get going, at around 30% I was wondering if this was going somewhere anytime soon! Wallace is so unlikable that whole time, so it was a bit tough for me at first. I had faith that TJ wouldnât steer me wrong though, so I stuck with it and am so glad I did. The book is about Wallaceâs redemption, so it makes sense that he was a self-righteous ass and so annoying at the beginning. But he slowly learns in death the lessons he didnât learn in life, loosening up and becoming more kind and more likable. I was quite engrossed for the last half and wanted to get back to it every time I had to stop listening! This book talks a lot about life and death and was very heartbreaking and emotional at times. I definitely shed a few tears at several points in the book. It also has a lot of funny parts. The ouija board scene had me laughing so hard my 11 year old asked me what was so funny. So I played the entire scene for her and she was cracking up too. Such a fun, interesting, creative book! I had a great time listening to this one.I listened to the audiobook which was narrated by Kirt Graves. Iâve listened to a few other audios from him and I think he did a fantastic job narrating this one. He was great at having all the character voices sound very individual and they all sounded right for the characters. It was easy to know who was talking just by the sound of their voice.

A good read.
Iâm a pretty big fan of TJ Kluneâs writing style, however, however I found it really hard to get into this book in the begging half of it. It gets much better towards the end of the book and Iâm very glad I stuck it out. The characters are lovable and interesting. This book will definitely make you cry if youâre an emotional reader. However I couldnât help but think that TJ Klune forgot some of the characters he was writing about werenât alive. One instance he was talking about one of the ghost characters being out of breath, this would pull me out of the story a bit. I still feel like this is a great read if you are a fan of TJ kluneâs other work and I recommend giving it a chance.

About living
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Wallace was a jerk while he was alive. After his death he met Me , A young woman who was his reaper and escorted I’m to the next phase at Charing Cross Tea and Treats. This book focused in death, dying, and acceptance. I would recommend this book to everyone who has experienced A death. It teaches that acceptance leads to living A fuller life.

A beautifully, funny, profound masterpiece wrapped in a tale of love, life and death
Oh my goodness. This book. Is. Everything. Expect to feel all the things – expect to laugh, to swoon, to bite your nails, to roll your eyes, to be verklempt, and to cry. I wish there was a way to give a book more than 5 stars. If so, this book would deserve all the stars. It is most importantly a story of a man who finds his people and his path but interwoven with this wonderful tale is an equally profound and beautiful philosophy about life and death. This book is a life, love, and death affirming masterpiece encompassed in a beautiful, heart warming story of death, messy life, love, family, and finding your path. The book is about Charonâs Crossing, a little tea shop at the end of a road in a small town. But itâs not only a tea shop. Itâs also a way station for the dead who come to transition between life and death. Itâs proprietor is Hugo, a ferryman, who helps the dead transition and the other employee is Mei, a reaper, who collects the dead and brings them to the tea shop. There are also two resident ghosts, Nelson, Hugoâs grandfather, and Apollo, Hugoâs dog. The book begins at Wallaceâs death. Wallace was not a nice man for most of his life. He was selfish, entitled, and self-absorbed. But in the tea shop way station as Wallace prepares to move on, he gets the opportunity to look at his life, his choices, who he was, and who heâd like to be. âDeath isnât a final ending, Wallace. It is an ending, sure, but only to prepare you for a new beginning.â âThereâs nothing for you to fear. Youâll no longer know pain. Youâll no longer know suffering. There will be peace for you. All you have to do is rise through the door.â TJ Klune is a master storyteller who has perfected the art of writing stories whose meaning and emotions stay with you long after you read the last word and whose main characters include beautiful three dimensional, imperfect, non-hetero characters who are also characters with such depth and so much heart that you want them to be your best friends. I will now be carrying Wallace, Hugo, Mei, Nelson, and Apollo in my heart every day because how could I not.

This book was a pleasant surprise. A perfect balance of emotions – just enough comic relief to the grief, anger and sadness. It was beautiful.

Chegou 13 dias ou mais antes do previsto, muito bem embalado e a história é tão boa quanto A Casa No Mar Cerúleo!

When I was given the opportunity to read the new TJ Klune book, I was beside myself with joy. The House in the Cerulean Sea is one of my favorite books, so my expectations were sky high.I immediately noticed that TJ Klune has his own distinct voice, full of warmth, friendliness and humor. As for the story: a nasty man, a lawyer, dies and ends up with Hugo, the ferryman of the dead.Under the Whispering Door did not disappoint in the slightest, I loved this book. It often made me laugh, it surprised me many times and it didn’t bore me for a second. I couldn’t stop reading, it was so addictive. I love it when a story pulls me in like that.I very much enjoyed the subtle wisdom that TJ Klune spread throughout the story, this is definitely a book to read with a pen an notebook nearby. In all honesty, this book was not as wonderful as The House in the Cerulean Sea, but it’s impossible to write another book like that. Under the Whispering Door is still a lot better than most other books.
