A Quality Substrate but Take Caution
The Bio Dude Terra Sahara Bioactive Reptile Substrate is undoubtedly a high-quality choice for terrariums and vivariums. Its natural appearance and texture add an authentic touch to any reptile enclosure, enhancing the overall aesthetic. One of the standout features of this substrate is its natural composition, designed to create a bioactive environment that supports the well-being of reptiles. The substrate promotes the growth of beneficial microorganisms that contribute to the overall health of the terrarium ecosystem. However, it is essential to note that the substrate includes some larger chunks, which can pose a potential concern, particularly for reptiles with delicate digestive systems like leopard geckos. Accidental ingestion of these larger pieces can lead to impaction, a serious health issue for reptiles. As a responsible pet owner, I have taken extra precautions to ensure the safety of my leopard gecko while using this substrate. Feeding my gecko in a separate dish eliminates the risk of accidentally ingesting the substrate during mealtime. This practice allows my pet to enjoy the benefits of the Terra Sahara substrate without compromising her health.Despite the caution required, the Terra Sahara Bioactive Reptile Substrate remains a reliable choice for creating a bioactive environment that promotes the natural behaviors of reptiles. Its moisture-retaining properties help maintain appropriate humidity levels in the enclosure, benefiting the health and comfort of the reptiles. In conclusion, The Bio Dude Terra Sahara Bioactive Reptile Substrate is an excellent option for terrariums and vivariums, especially for reptiles that thrive in bioactive environments. Its natural composition enhances the habitat’s overall appeal and supports the growth of beneficial microorganisms. However, pet owners should be cautious and ensure that their reptiles do not accidentally ingest the larger substrate pieces. By feeding reptiles in separate dishes, one can safely enjoy the benefits of this substrate while prioritizing the health and well-being of their beloved pets.

Good quality substrate for terrarium
Perfect lizard substrate. My gecko loves it. She digs and sleeps in it and has never tried to eat the stuff. I imagine for a baby/juvenile it may be a bit trickier. Especially if you feed them in their tank via hand or tong feeding: may accidentally eat substrate.

Excellent for diggers! VERY small, expensive.
This substrate stays damp on the bottom and dry on the top for humidity-averse animals. You can still use springtails and use powder orange isopods for bioactives. Water a corner for them every week or so.I am using this substrate in my rosy boa enclosures. They love to dig and burrow, so a good time is being had by them! The substrate does a fair, but imperfect job of holding the shape of the burrows, so place rocks with this in mind. My rosys go wild digging, so their rocks have been anchored or removed. This particular bag willl NOT be sufficient for a 20L enclosure. I had to order the 50 lb bag to complete the task. Thus it is very expensive for the amount. May be best for a 10 gallon or smaller enclosure.

High quality substrate
The bioactive soil looks good and smells fine, we’ll see how well it holds up over time. My only issue was with the shipping. It was almost $9 to ship via FedEx which kept getting delayed until I had to drive to my local FedEx facility and pick it up. I realize that’s a FedEx issue but I ship human cremated remains all the time for $50 and it arrives with the family the next day. $8 seems steep for a 5lb package that takes a week to deliver. I wish the biodudes website was active and stocked, I’d just buy from there directly if I could and not have a Amazon middle man that does nothing.EDIT: I contacted the seller about my issue and they have resolved it. A+++ customer service!

Excellent Product and Excellent Customer Service
This substrate has been perfect for a very young leopard geckoâs habitat. The succulents I planted have survived for several weeks and are as healthy as the others planted elsewhere, and the isopod community seems to be doing well.I ordered one bag of this substrate and liked it well enough to order a second. The second was lost in transit while out of state. When I requested a replacement, I was sent a new product with absolutely no hassle. If youâre looking for a suitable bioactive substrate, I cannot recommend this product enough.

Seems good
I didnât open it, but Iâve heard great things about it. I need a different type of dirt right now for my lizard. Iâm just disappointed that in order to return it, I have to pay the shipping and through UPS. I order through Amazon for convenience of avoiding shipping charges and finding places to return items. So keep in mind if you are uncertain about the dirt, it may cost you more to return it.

Amazing Products!
All products from The Bio Dude are so great! I purchased the Terra Sahara, Biodegradables, Leaf Litter, and Bio Shot to enrich my new bioactive setup. I immediately saw some of my isopods (that were already in there) seeking out the biodegradables, and the leaf litter is perfect for hiding my clean up crew so my beardie doesnât eat them! Lol Will definitely continue to purchase products from him, as all of the living things (including my aloe plant and my bearded dragon) in the enclosure seem to really be thriving!
