Hygger CO2 Shrimp Substrate is made by a newly upgraded process and is added with trace nutrient elements suitable for the reproduction and growth of shrimps. In addition, the shrimp substrate has long-lasting fertility and can slowly release the fertilizer effect, avoiding the massive growth of algae in the early stage. It is an important substrate for shrimp reproduction, the growth of aquatic plants, and the creation of aquascaping.
The shrimp soil is made by sintering premium natural mountain soil, and it has excellent water permeability. Its porous structure provides habitats for microorganisms and bacteria. It has outstanding characteristics of reducing acidity and softening water, absorbing substances harmful to fish and shrimp such as nitrite, which helps to maintain the stability of the water quality in the fish tank. Note: Successful shrimp keeping depends on multiple factors, and Shrimp Soil is just one of them.
The texture of the shrimp soil is fine and not easy to scatter. When laid on the bottom of the aquarium, it not only provides a growth environment for live aquarium plants, promotes the photosynthesis of aquarium grass and makes them grow more luxuriantly, but also increases the ornamental value of the aquarium and creates a beautiful fish tank landscape. It is an excellent choice for aquascaping of water plant tanks and a perfect substrate for crystal shrimp.
No cleaning required; ready for immediate use. During initial use, the water may appear cloudy—this is normal. After 2-3 water changes, the water will become clear and remain stable. In addition, this product has been rigorously tested and proven to be harmless to fish and aquatic plants, but for safety reasons, it is recommended to change the water once a day for 3 to 5 days after setting up the fish tank, and ensure that the water is changed at least 3 times before adding aquatic organisms.
Hygger CO2 shrimp soil particles are about 3 – 5mm, which is of moderate size, ensuring good air permeability and providing stable support for the roots of live aquarium plants. This product has been specially treated to prevent pulverization and maintain the stability and permeability of the substrate. If the product is damaged during transportation, please contact us for after – sales. We will do our best to ensure that you have a pleasant shopping experience.
Warm tips: Shrimp soil should be directly poured into the fish tank for use, and must not be rinsed with water! During the production process, the porous structure inside the shrimp soil absorbs many nutrients beneficial to aquatic plants and shrimps, promoting their healthy growth. Washing the shrimp soil may rinse away these beneficial microorganisms and could also cause it to break down into mud, making it dirtier the more you wash it. Therefore, do not wash the shrimp soil!

✅ INCREDIBLY CLEAN (NO DUST + FOGGY WATER). BETTER THAN OTHER PLANTED TANK SUBSTRATES!
Being an aquarist for more than 7 years, I have tried almost every kind of planted tank substrate there is, out on the market currently. After having used a popular name brand substrate for so long, the inflation of the economy effected everything and the price of it skyrocketed. I started looking for alternatives that could still provide all the benefits of that substrate but be more friendly on the budget. I have a ton of products and aquarium equipment from this very brand and have never been disappointed by any of it. This new substrate was no exception!✅ QUANTITY: the bag versus the price is amazing. you get a full 6.6lb bag for the price point versus getting half that amount and weight for three times the price from the popular brand. that makes a huge difference. you can fill an entire 20 gallon aquarium with at least a good inch, with this size bag, and still be able to successfully plant the tank. so the amount that you get versus the price is unbeatable.✅ QUALITY: the granules are a bit bigger than the popular brand. that’s the first noticeable feature. these granules are a bit harder and more solid as well. they don’t crumble and crush as easily and stay solidified even when submerged in water. even after a longer period of time, the granules don’t break down and remain solid but pliable allowing for plant roots to be able to push through and grow successfully, and that makes a huge difference between this and the competing product. im not sure why there is a color shade difference, though, but perhaps for material composition is slightly different, but the lighter shade makes the tank look brighter and not so dark.✅ NO DUST! CLEAN!: a huuuuge positive that i noticed right away after comparing this to the competition, is that this substrate is super clean! that’s huge, because to this date there has never been a planted tank substrate that has not left the water foggy or murky from first application! that is amazing to me! even with regular gravel there can tend to be a slight laziness to the water when first using and filling up the tank, but the tank in the picture was set up no later than ten minutes before that picture was taken, and filled with water, and the water is crystal clear with no floating dust, fog, or laziness, whatsoever! it’s almost shocking because i even started the filter in preparation to allow it to run and let the water settle and clear before continuing to set up and plant the tank. but this substrate created NO fog, and is so clean, the water is crystal clear! it’s totally a first in the history of planted tank substrates!✅ COMPOSITION: filling the tank with water for the first time, i noticed that there were no granules that floated to the surface and the water actually took a few minutes to fully penetrate the substrate and the granules. im not completely positive on every single ingredient that these granules are composed of, but they are extremely similar to the popular, leading, brand. that much is obvious. i actually used a few cups of this substrate in the bottom of a plant pot, that i then planted a begonia into, and within 5 days, the begonia had doubled in size and the leaves became bigger than they’d ever been! that right there let’s me know that whatever this substrate is composed of, contains beneficial ingredients that serve as fertilizer and root booster to plants. so i can only imagine of great this substrate will be with actual aquatic plants!◼ OVERALL RATING: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ FIVE STARS ————————————————♡》》》 IN SUMMARY: there are cleat and obvious differences between this substrate and the more expensive and popular name brand alternative. but because im all about trying new things and having been familiar with this brand and their quality of products, this substrate met and also surpassed my expectations. the biggest and most commendable feature to note is that it is so very clean, ductless, and fogless in the water! you would have never guessed that the tank in my pictures was set up less than ten minutes prior, just by looking at the clarity and cleanliness of the water. it’s so uncharacteristic for substrate, especially planted tank substrate, to be so clean when first being submerged in water, especially without being pre-rinsed! it’s still surprising to me. this has greatly benefitted one of my houseplants, so i can absolutely believe that this will be just as beneficial for aquatic plants, as well. the granules stay solid and compact, even if broken in half— the granules are dustless! if you’re looking for something more budget friendly but still beneficial for your planted tank, most definitely get a bag of this! ♡

Very very dusty stuff but the plants and shrimp like it.
As the directions state to give it time to allow any dust to settle, this took about 3 days for me and I had to change filters in the process which isn’t a big deal. However this dust is way too easy to get kicked back up and you’re back to brown tank.Whenever I suck up the bottom for any leftover crud I’m sucking up so much of this silt that I feel like I’ll have none of it left eventually but the substrate orbs. Not sure if that’s the intended end game of this product or not but I do not enjoy the extra equipment maintenance that comes with this product. The above reasons are why I’m giving it 3 stars. As for the plants and shrimp they seem to enjoy the silt that is left and I did get a short burst of extra plant growth.

Great Substrate for My Shrimp Tank!
I started using the Shrimp Soil Water Grass Mud (6.6 lbs) in my 2.5-gallon planted shrimp tank this week, and I’m really impressed! It’s a cinch to use—no washing needed—and while the water gets a little silty at first, it settles down after a day or so, leaving it nice and clear. My plants are taking root already, and the shrimp are buzzing around happily. The 6.6-pound bag was plenty for my small tank, making setup quick and easy. It’s super simple—just pour it in and let it do its thing—and it’s perfect for a nano shrimp and plant setup. My tank’s looking awesome so far!

    Great for Planted Tanks
I am super happy with the Hygger brand aquarium soil. I much prefer to use a soil stratum and sometimes cover with sand depending on the plants. Usually, I notice a ton of “dust” or water discoloration that takes forever to leave the tank regardless of what I do to prevent it. This brand did not have nearly the usually amount of dust making the tank much easier to filter and keep cycling!I added a few different things to this tank all of which are thriving. My Amazon swords have grown with new leaves sprouting. My shrimp and snails are doing really well with the addition of some calcium rocks for invertebrate support. This substrate is super close to actual “dirt” without the dust making it much softer for invertebrates and plant roots. It is super simple to work with for aqua-scaping and surrounding plant roots.I would definitely recommend trying this brand of substrate soil! So far, I have no complaints.

    Love this substrate
Works like a charm. No rinsing needed, just pour it in and you’re good. Plants rooted fast and shrimp seem happy. Minimal clouding too.

    It’s ok
It’s fine, but mine was very foggy and dusty. It says no need to rinse, so I didn’t. This type of substrate breaks down into a finer texture for planted tanks, so I get why it says not to rinse; however, it’s super cloudy at first. It settles pretty fast, but the moment you move something, it immediately kicks up the dust again. Not my favorite, but also not terrible.

    Another wonderful product from Hygger.
I haven’t put water in my tank yet, as I’m trying to figure out how I’m going to do my plants. But, this product was very low dust, and settled nicely at the bottom of the tank. I also like the color – it’s a brownish-beige. It looks wonderful with my dragons stone and terracotta pot. I also think that it’s going to contrast well with my plant choices. I would recommend this product for fellow aquarium enthusiasts.
