Naturally prevents mold and mildew!
I have a hermit crab that is now approx. 10 to 12 years old. I adopted it from my grandson who was gifted it several years ago, and he was simply never interested. I made it a home in an old goldfish bowl and the rest is history. We have moved or changed his habitat many times, and now he is, with his legs out-stretched, about eight inches across, and he lives in a twenty gallon glass tank. I have used Eco Earth by Zoo Med exclusively because hermit crabs must have a very humid environment to breath properly through modified gills. At the same time, they are not aquatic and can drown. This stuff is perfect! Once hydrated, it holds moisture very well but doesn’t get too heavy for him to move through easily. And since he also needs a very warm environment, we keep heaters attached to the bottom of his tank and they stay on ALWAYS. We used to amend the Eco Earth with sand, but over time it would get rock hard from the heat in the bottom of his tank, so eventually we went to ONLY the Zoo Med coconut fiber. Mold isn’t an issue because the coconut fiber naturally prevents it, even in an environment that stays very warm and humid. For an environment that must be warm and damp, but has to stay mold free, nothing is better. I HIGHLY recommend the Zoo Med Eco Earth. He’s happy, healthy and growing like a weed!

A MUST have for all crabitats!
I love this stuff for my hermit crab tank. It is safe and keeps the crabs happy. It is incredibly easy to use, just soak it in your treated water (NOT TAP WATER) and then break it up and add it. You will want a 5:1 ratio of play sand and eco brick for your substrate. Make sure that it is also at least 6 inches. This is a great product, and if you love your crabs, you will use it often.
