This changed my life, no kidding
I wish I never heard of tank gravel, and I’m ashamed it took me decades to try sand. This review is by a novice with sand, expert at aquarium care for tanks 10 gallons or less. I’m a betta loyalist.I used two bags and rinsed one; in the future, I’ll do a rinse for speed. The water was uncomfortably cloudy for me but reading the reviews forced me to be patient. I let it cycle about four hours before I returned my betta Byumba & snail Datsun home. It was still cloudy, but two water tests an hour apart confirmed safety. The water was completely clear after almost three whole days. It was like a magic wand hit it.I switched to sand due to the never ending battle with algae. I cannot believe it took me this long. It’s been over a month, the water is still perfectly clear and the only algae is so little I have to inspect it.Byumba enjoys moving the sand (he made a groove under his heater) & Datsun no longer avoids the bottom. It’s life-changing, I tell you!I had to clean a very clogged filter* last week. It was wonderful because it proved the algae horror had ended.I have reviews on many tank items, but most of all I strongly recommend my filter and heater, good for up to 10 gal. Some bonus stuff about my 5.5 gal masterpiece:â¢I use plastic zip ties and regular super glue for designs, and redecor 3x/year.â¢I use slices of pool noodle to make floating holders for plants; I use zip ties or electric wire to secure the stalk if necessary.â¢I have a lucky bamboo, several pothos, a snake plant, and two baby monsteras flourishing and naturally cycling the water alongside the filter. I added the monsteras specifically to consume waste in order to starve algae growths. I no longer maintain aquatic plants due to the algae problems inherent to 5 gallon tanks.-I have a planted pothos with a branch rooting in the water. It’s currently beginning to separate fully from the mother plant.â¢I find big rocks outside, set them in hot water and bleach overnight, sometimes glue them together, because it’s beautiful free decor. Fun to make stuff too.â¢My only issue with the filter is the strong output. Byumba values a still water corner, I have to come up with ways to divert it. If you look closely at the Buddha, you’ll notice a glass wall that directs the flow to the right.-that’s the glass beer mug from dollar tree. I took a hammer and slowly broke it to the shape I needed, and then I filed the edges smooth with a foot file (it’s the same grit as sandpaper). Datsun the snail has been all over the edges to confirm they’re smooth, but I risked my own fingertips to make sure he didn’t get sliced (I wouldn’t have forgiven myself).â¢The driftwood and a mopani log in the back give the water a warm, amber tint, caused by tannins and good/fine for fish. If you add this, don’t worry about the tint.â¢I keep the cat’s bowl by the tank b/c it’s lovely watching them interact a little.I hope this helps! Perfect for my 5.5 gallon betta tank!
Great sand. I recently bought this for my 5.5 gallon betta tank. The color is a subtle off-white and looks very natural in the tank. It looks phenomenal under a white LED light. The grains are much bigger than sand but smaller than gravel. Like any substrate, be sure to rinse before use so the tank water doesn’t become murky. Every sand packet should come with a complimentary Carib Sea BioMagnet Clarifier dosage for 5 gallons to decrease water cloudiness.This is the second Carib Sea product I have ordered. No regrets here!

Beautiful in any tank!
I have three tanks and all of them contain Super Naturals substrate. Two have Tahitian Moon and my small 5 gallon betta tank contains Torpedo Beach. When I was new to the hobby I started with substrates from “big box” stores who sell dyed substrates that leach and cannot, in my opinion, be healthy for fish in the long term. I won’t buy anything but Carib Sea at this point. Super Naturals is NOT artificially colored and it always looks gorgeous under LED lighting. Also, going with sand as opposed to coarser gravel is a better option because food and other debris stay on top of the sand, making for easy cleanup. The Natural Torpedo beach is a very, very light beige and the grains are a little coarser than what I expected. However, it add dimension to the tank and looks beautiful, and still offers the easy cleanup I was looking for.

This sand is perfect! Large enough pieces so it doesn’t float around, but small enough to be soft for sensitive fish.

Super small bags. In my opinion, you would need about 4 of these for a ten gallon tank and the price is too high.

Great color, weathers well, will buy again
I really like the color of this product. Originally I thought it was a bit to white but after having it in the tank and letting nature take its course it has dimmed down a bit to a very nice natural light color. Some parts have turned a yellow orange like color but itâs very light and it honestly adds a nice natural look. Iâve had it in a two gallon tank for a little over a month and itâs been perfect. In a two gallon tank one bag works just fine.

as an experienced salt and freshwater fiish keeper im very happy with this and the added water clear pouch is very nice. not covered in a tun of powder so you donty need to rins it for an hour. sost so it wont scratch scaless fish like loaches, great size pieces as thy are to big to get sucked into a filter easily and to not float onto of the water. but small enough to not look like rocks instead of sand. also very nice colour, looks amazing in real life… way better than the bag looks like on amazon. Finaly eventhough it is a small bag it is the perfect amount for a 5g tank. 6/5 stars 🙂

I actually donât use this for a fish tank what I use as far as actually the mix in with my soil to make it drain better. It works really good it stays where it supposed to in the soil. I really really good product. I bought quite a few bags recommended

Few rinses and it’s ready to go. It gives a lot of light to the aquarium. I mixed it up with Sunset Gold sand (same brand) so it was not so white. Even though the other one is much thinner they go very well together. For a 5 gallon tank I used 2 bags. This allowed me to do some ondulations (not plain prairie look). I also put underneath the sand 1cm of soil for real plants to grow.

My red ear slider was great, healthy happy. I bought this, rinsed more than 6 times and drained. Had him out of the tank for day to let the sand settle…. fast forward 3 weeks and My turtle died. He wasn’t old, wasn’t unhealthy.Do I know for sure if it was the sand? No.Is that the only change in his enclosure? Yes.
