Our Parakeet Loves It!!!!
Weâve been using the Penn-Plax Bird-Life Natural E Cuttlebones for years, and our parakeet absolutely loves them! The cuttlebones are enriched with Omega 3 and Vitamin B1, which makes them not only a tasty treat but also a healthy addition to our birdâs diet. The texture is perfect for beak and nail care, and it keeps our parakeet active and engaged. We get two cuttlebones per package, which is a great value. Highly recommend this product to all bird owners looking for a nutritious and enjoyable treat for their feathered friends!

Good ingredients, but not actually cuttlebones. It may take your bird a while to like it.
Personally I donât think these should be called cuttlebones, as I bought them by mistake. There should be something right in the description that says theyâre a compound including less than half cuttlebone material.
That being said, I am here today to revise my review. I have raised it by one star, to a respectable 4 stars. The reason for the change is that once they got the hang of it, and figured out how to attack it, the birds did like these. It was not what they were used to. They barely touched it for the first two days. But then the third day, when I came home from work, I found that they had eaten so much of it! So I am still not sure of the other ingredients, and I still think the description itself should indicate that they are not “Natural cuttlebone,” which they clearly are not, and which the description clearly says they are. I think this is just wrong of the seller to do this, and I don’t know why it’s allowed. Nevertheless, it is a treat that my birds have come to appreciate.
The original review:
They are very hard, not flaky or crumbly, and my nine budgies are still waiting for the real thing. Theyâve barely touched it. Itâs not a substitute for actual cuttlebones, in my opinion, but perhaps a supplement. I am still left in the situation of needing to buy some cuttlebones.
I do understand and somewhat appreciate to ecologically oriented statement from the seller regarding the over-consumption of cuttlefish… what else is new, when it comes to humans? I doubt that providing cuttlebones for our caged birds is the major driver of cuttlebone consumption on the planet, however; we just have to be sure that all the parts of animals that are consumed for one purpose get used as much as possible for other purposes as well.
In short, these âmightâ be liked by your birds as something different, with lots of good minerals etc. but it might be a bit like getting your kids to eat their vegetables. They still want â and perhaps need, for beak conditioning and what not â the cuttlebone.

Very helpful for my aquarium snails!
I buy these for my mystery snails. I’m a first time snail owner and I had no idea they needed a source of calcium. I was doing a deep clean of my tank and realized my snails’ shells were a little softer than I remembered so I rushed to get this.
I break it apart in 5-6 pieces usually and put in two piece at a time in different spots of the aquarium. Once thrown in, the bone will fizzle for a good 10 minutes. I like that when it fizzles, small bites of powder come out of it and land in the vicinity for my snails to pick up as they move around. Each piece will last in my aquarium for ~2 weeks. It’s also more than enough for my 2 snails to eat. I still clean out my tank regularly though (weekly small cleans like changing 10-15% of water, cleaning filter every month, cleaning sand/deep clean every 4-6 weeks) and that will clean up any leftover cuttlebone that’s been sitting there for too long.

I read that these are also good for gerbils to chew on, gives them a little calcium boost – I bought this for a poorly furry who hurt his leg (possible fracture) thinking the extra calcium would do him good. Can’t say for sure that the cuttlefish cured him, but he’s all better now and he and his brothers have really enjoyed chewing on them!

Came intact and parrotlet loved them.

Bigger than I expected! My cockatiel was intimidated by the size of the cuttlebone when I first put it in the cage, but has since quite enjoyed pecking away at it. Will last a long time.

This is by far the best cuttle bone product that I’ve bought for my bird. The price is great and the plastic holder that comes with it is sturdy and holds up to my conures aggressive chewing.
