A young dog named Kennedy is once again waiting for the family she deserves after her first adoption ended in disappointment. The 35-pound pup, known for her gentle, affectionate nature, had been adopted from the City of Mobile Animal Services in Alabama. Sadly, just a few days later, she was returned when the placement didn’t work out, leaving her back in her kennel and confused by the sudden change.

Her story was shared on Facebook by Martin Miller, who has been dedicated to finding her a safe, loving home. “We are still looking for a home for this sweet girl. She was adopted a few days ago but unfortunately came back, so we start again,” he wrote on September 16. Kennedy has already endured more than her share of heartbreak. She lovingly raised a litter of puppies, all of whom found homes, but she has been left behind.

Despite her setbacks, Kennedy’s spirit shines through. Miller described her as great with all animals and people, affectionate, and eager for companionship. “She is only 35 pounds and shut down. We would love to find this girl a home. She is great with all animals and people, and we will waive her adoption fee,” he shared. Kennedy also has a cloudy eye, but it does not impact her health or her ability to live a happy, full life.

A young and sweet pit bull was found behind a warehouse in south Memphis with hundreds of bite marks and other severe injuries. Liam, as the rescuers named him, had been used as bait for dog fighting and his abusers are still at large.

Miller clarified that confusion arose from his earlier post announcing Kennedy’s adoption. “I should have been more clear in this post that it didn’t work out and she came back. My fault. We always take our dogs back if it doesn’t work out without any judgment,” he explained.

Kennedy’s experience is not unique. According to the American Humane Society, between 7 and 20 percent of adopted dogs are returned within the first six months. The adjustment period can be challenging, but with patience, guidance, and support, many dogs can successfully transition into their new families.

Kennedy’s story has resonated with people online. Dozens of commenters expressed heartbreak and hope for her. “So sweet… A little love bug… Praying she finds a loving forever family,” one person wrote. Another added, “I do hope she can find the loving home and owner she deserves.”

For now, Kennedy continues to wait patiently in her kennel. Her journey serves as a reminder that while adoption saves lives, finding the right fit is just as important. Kennedy still has hope that someone will look past her cloudy eye and past disappointments, and finally give her the forever home she has been longing for.
