GREAT fixture for Bearded Dragon – works great and looks nicer than dome
I bought this because I have several other dome fixtures that were given to me used, but my husband was worried by how hot they were getting and that the cord coming out of them was hot. I don’t know if the fixtures were old and faulty causing them to overheat or if my husband was being overly cautious, but the compromise we came to was to buy new fixtures. My Husband is Happy:He suggested this item because the wire comes out the side eliminating the possibility of the wire overheating due to contact with the fixture. So he’s happy! Why I Love It:I put in 1 halogen bulb and turned the fixture on, and within 5 minutes my basking spot was already up to 106 which is perfect for a beardie. I’m happy that it works!I also needed a light fixture that wasn’t as “tall” as most dome fixtures because of the shelf I’m keeping my beardie’s tank on – a regular dome fixture wouldn’t fit. So this fixture fits perfectly on top of my screen top and heats great! I’ll be buying another of these to upgrade my Ball Python’s heating too!! I know most people use dome light fixtures but I like the way this light fixture looks much better.

Amazing light fixture
I had to replace the old dome fixture for my tortoise indoor habitat and since I have two similar hood light fixture for 2 of my other habitats I was glad I found this one (for a good price, too).It is much better than the other hood light fixtures that I already have because it has the two (separate for each bulb) on/off buttons directly on the back of the hood and not as flip switches connected to the cord. No more diving behind the habitats to snatch the cords to turn the lights on/off.It is much better than dome fixtures because the bulbs are screwed in horizontally so no need to get the more expensive mini UV light coils. There is enough room for a regular size UV light coil. The fixture can take up to 120 W per bulb (according to the box) which is plenty for my tortoise enclosure since I only use 50-75 Watt bulbs since it is not very high walled (see picture). It might be problem for desert species and/or habitats with higher walls that might need 150 Watt light bulb, though. With the new fixture the light seems to be more focused so she has it nice and toasty at a 85-90 degrees now under her basking spot. It never got that hot with the same wattage bulb with the dome fixture – I always needed a small additional light during the day.I can absolutely recommend that hood fixture. I am very happy with it.

Just what I have been wanting.
I have always wanted something like this to put the bulbs I use and set it on the screen on top of my Bearded dragon cages which are actually 64-gallon fish aquariums. Only they have screened tops for lizard cages. I have been using dome lamps for over 8 years and they worked out well enough but it always bothered me that I couldn’t get more of the light into all parts of their cage. So, with this being longer than the type of dome lamps I have now they will finally get more light in their cages. I was worried about whether or not the bulbs I have and get would screw into this particular hood. It shows on the listing two different kinds of bulbs in the same hood. That is what I wanted to do. After getting it I put one basking light on one side and the other type of bulb to help with calcium on the other side. They both turned on and are still working good. So, I am happy about that. Whenever I looked for hoods in the past I could never find this size and they were always for fish aquariums only. I will have to get me another one for my other Bearded Dragon in her 64 gallon tank as well.

In my opinion this is good quality. It has a bit of weight to it without being too heavy: I hate those tops of tanks that just move out of place because they’re so light! I would say this item is considerably a better build than $10, I think the price is appropriate for the build. Yes it’s a form of plastic, but it’s not too thin. Yes it has one wire and two switches, I would have liked to link up a timer for the light, but I guess I’ll just have to be old school and walk over and prod it with my index finger!I’ve got this for a paludarium. Ps. Buy some bulbs.

This warmer light fixture is great for my anaconda tank. The only thing I wish is that it came with the bulbs. However, after ordering some, the warmer has worked extremely well. I really like that there are independent switches for each light; it helps tremendously with temperature regulation.
