This bird seed is formulated with 100% safflower seeds.
Safflower seeds are favored for their high energy content, small size, and thin hull, and as a bonus, they don’t leave behind shells and are disliked by squirrels.
It can be fed on its own or blended with other wild bird seed and is best used with a large port tube feeder, hopper feeder or platform feeder.
Packaged in a barrier bag, sealed air tight and CO2 flushed to preserve optimal freshness. Packaging is in the process of being updated and may vary.
Attracts: Northern Cardinals, Black-capped Chickadees, Dark-eyed Juncos, White-breasted Nuthatches, Downy Woodpeckers, Hairy Woodpeckers, Northern Flickers, House Finches, Mourning Doves.

Customers say

Customers find that the product attracts birds of all kinds, including cardinals, finches, and other song birds. They appreciate its quality, value, and cleanliness. However, some customers have reported issues with the seed quality causing a mess or germinating in the bag. Opinions differ on whether squirrels are attracted to the feeder.

    Great Safflower Bird Seed
The Armstrong safflower bird seed seems to be pure, without a lot of threshing products embedded in it. The safflower is said to discourage squirrles, but that’s a myth I’ve disproven. The squirrles around me will eat either sunflower or safflower with equal gusto.I typically mix the more expensive safflower seed with my sunflower seed, placing the mixture in old milk bottles, for easy distribution. The recent cold spell drew multitudes of birds, and the feeders had to be frequently refilled.Bottom line, this is a good product for its intended use.

No more squirrel raids on our bird feeder
Birds love it and squirrels don’t…which is exactly what I was looking for. Previously used the costco bird seed but squirrels love that stuff and were constantly assaulting my bird feeder which has baffle and squirrel proof feeder trying to get the seeds. They leave it alone now and stop digging up my garden once I switched to this. This was fresh, smelled good, low debris and works perfect. Also seeds don’t get stuck in my feeder anymore. So that’s another plus.

Birds love it, Squirrels appear not to!
Birds love it! I have a feeder with. amara and see so many different species of birds eating and coming back for more. so far I haven’t seen a single squirrel on my feeder trying for this food . Appears to be fresh. I just ordered my second bag.

    Fine product, misdelivered.
Safflower seeds are fine, FedEx wasn’t. The day after this was showing delivered, there was no sign of it at my house. I checked and found it on the front porch of my next door neighbors who are out of town for the next week.Unfortunately, a lot of this service failure in my neighborhood.

Good quality bird seed at a good price
We have a lot of bird feeders and use only safflower seed–it attracts songbirds and doves but not sparrows or grackles. This is the second time we’ve ordered these larger bags, and we’re really pleased with this brand. It’s a good price, and there’s no trash or waste with these seeds. The bags themselves are heavy-duty and the seed always smells fresh when you open it.

    Cost effective and good seed
I shopped around before purchasing this one. Of everything I reviewed, this was the best price and the quality of the seed was very nice.

Our birds hated this brand of safflower
Safflower seed has been our main feed for years. Draws the birds we want, keeps away the bully birds like crows and starlings and the squirrels don’t like it either. Decided to try using Amazon to save a few bucks and convienance. Where a 20lb bag previously lasted two weeks this brand lasted four. Don’t know if I got a bad bag or something about the processing is different but went back to local bird store brand and the birds came back immediately. I’ll spend the extra few bucks and make the trip from now on.

    Great birdseed for certain birds
This product is well packaged. The birds, love it. However, if you are looking for a birdseed for all birds, this is not the seed for you. It works mainly for Cardinals, small birds and doves. The reason I bought it is to keep away the large, more aggressive birds. They do not like the seed. Squirrels also do not like the seed..
