I like to crochet and my favorite things to make are stuffed toys that need eyes. My favorite eyes to use are the plastic eyes that have the safety washers with them. Unfortunately, those types of eyes can be difficult to attach. I have tried attaching them with traditional tools (that resulted in the eyes being scratched up a little bit), the tools that are made with a hollow tube attached to a wooden handle that are designed to push the washer onto the stem of the eye piece (those types of tools work, but take some practice and a hard surface to press on) and just simply pushing the washers on with my fingers. All of those methods work, but not as well as this tool. The thing I like best about this tool is that it doesn’t stretch or disrupt the stitches around the area where you want to attach the eyes and it applies pressure to the washer and the eye evenly so there is no distortion to the face due to crooked washers. Like most tools, it does take a little practice to use, especially if you don’t want to push the washer all the way down the stem. And it definitely seems to work best on mid-sized eyes. The smaller eyes are more difficult to keep seated in the tool. Overall, I am pleased with this tool and will add it to the tools I use when I crochet.

Works great for safety eyes that aren’t super difficult to get in, but I needed this for my more stubborn eyes. It doesn’t clamp down flat, but at an angle, so it doesn’t seem to get good, even pressure on all sides. It also feels like I’m going to snap the handles if I actually press them as much as I need to to get the safety eyes to snap into place. Haven’t been able to use it for what I needed it for, but it does the job if you have issues with your hands and trying to do the less sturdy safety eyes.

Worthless. The fastener gets stuck. Maybe works for only very large safety eyes which really donât need any extra help to secure. Donât waste your money

I am just venturing into crocheting Amigurumi and Plushies and the thing I find the most difficult is putting in the safety eyes. By hand, they aren’t tight enough (gotta love arthritis) and usual fare of setters aren’t versatile enough. I saw this type of safety eye tool and wondered if it was really as helpful as I was reading. Now that I have used this to attach the safety eyes onto a little dinosaur I’m making for my youngest grandson I can honestly say that it sure made putting the eyes into it’s little head so much easier than trying to do it by hand alone. Having the tool able to do up to 30mm, using the adapter for smaller eyes 5mm-10mm I think makes this worth the price point. Those little eyes were attached so quickly, with no struggle I was surprised and delighted. The handle on one side has finger placement (it’s wavy) the other exactly what you need for the thumb. This is plenty ergonomic, lightweight (nice smooth plastic) and if you don’t abuse it, definitely worth the price. If you make lots of toys, this would be a good investment to make. I received this item in return for an honest review of the product. Needless to say, I would spend the money myself just to have it, even if only occasionally and it would make a great gift for any crafter that knits, crochets or weaves toys needing eyes. For the people who sew, a small cut or hole started at the point you need to place the eyes (just like we have to do anyway if we aren’t sewing on the eyes) would make this tool useful for you to use too.
