When Brianna first met Opal, she felt an instant connection. The tiny Pit Bull puppy had endured a traumatic jaw injury that required her to wear a muzzle full-time and have her jaw wired shut—but none of that dimmed her spirit. Despite everything, Opal was overflowing with love, her tail wagging with joy from the moment they met. It was clear she had chosen Brianna as her person.
Opal went home with Brianna to begin her healing journey, but due to her fragile condition, she had to be kept separate from the household’s other dog, Duke. That didn’t sit well with either pup. From the moment Duke laid eyes on Opal, he was captivated. He lingered outside the gate for hours, and both dogs cried for each other, day after day, their longing impossible to ignore.

After three days of constant whimpering, Brianna allowed them to be near one another under careful supervision. Though they couldn’t roughhouse or play, the two immediately began snuggling. Opal adored her foster brother, but watching him enjoy toys and treats she couldn’t yet have was confusing for her.

For five long months, Opal stayed on strict restrictions while her jaw healed. Then, at last, came the news they’d all been waiting for: she was cleared by the vet! The wire came out, and Opal was finally free to enjoy life as a normal dog. Brianna took her to the pet store, where she joyfully picked out toys and proudly chewed for the first time.

But the happiest moment was yet to come. Duke had one last surprise—he didn’t just want Opal as a playmate. He wanted her to stay forever. And Brianna, already head over heels, made it official. Opal wasn’t just a foster anymore. She was home.
