His demeanor was calm and gentle, and he looked at Jen as if asking for help. She couldn’t just walk away. Instead, she knelt down to get a better look at him, speaking softly to avoid scaring him away.
It was clear to Jen that this dog wasn’t a stray by nature. His kind eyes and calm behavior suggested he once belonged to a loving family. Unsure of what to do, Jen decided to take immediate action. She pulled out her phone, recorded a video of the dog, and posted it on social media.
“Found him alone and wandering. Turns out he’s super sweet, but no one has claimed him. So we’re fostering him with a local rescue organization,” she wrote in her TikTok post, hoping someone would recognize the dog and come forward.
Jen’s video quickly gained traction, with many locals commenting that they had seen the dog wandering around the town. However, no one knew where he came from or if he had a family searching for him.
Determined not to leave the dog out in the cold, Jen decided to bring him into her home temporarily. She gave him food, water, and a comfortable place to rest while she tried to figure out her next steps. The following day, she scheduled a vet appointment to learn more about her unexpected guest.
The vet revealed that the dog was a two-year-old Great Pyrenees, a breed known for its gentle temperament and loyalty. The veterinarian also suggested Jen connect with Columbus Rescue Dogs, a reputable rescue organization in Columbus, Texas, to help find the dog’s owners or rehome him.
Though Jen initially intended to foster the dog only for a short time, she couldn’t help but feel drawn to him. She named him Gibbous, inspired by the luminous gibbous moon that lit up the sky the night she found him.
What began as a temporary arrangement soon blossomed into a deep bond. Gibbous quickly adjusted to life with Jen, showing his playful and affectionate side. He loved exploring his new surroundings, playing in the yard, and curling up near Jen whenever she was around.
“If I’m being honest, I’m falling in love! He is the sweetest dog, and he’s always smiling at me! So we’re getting pretty close to a foster fail here. I’m too vested in this sweet, happy gentle giant,” Jen admitted in one of her TikTok updates.
For months, Jen worked tirelessly to ensure Gibbous was happy and healthy. She prepared him for potential adopters, but deep down, she couldn’t bear the thought of letting him go. As time passed, it became clear that Gibbous wasn’t just a foster dog—he was family.
When no one came forward to claim him, and no suitable adopters emerged, Jen made the heartfelt decision to adopt him permanently.
Now officially a part of Jen’s family, Gibbous has embraced his new life wholeheartedly. He adores car rides, long walks, and spending quality time with his new mom. His favorite pastime is playing in Jen’s spacious yard, but what he loves most is simply being by her side.
“Life is good for this rescue foster Gibbous. He’s sooooo good at car rides, outdoor dining, and loving people,” Jen shared.
