Guide Dog To Blind Chihuahua Won’t Give Bunny Back To Her New Mom

Found wandering in the middle of a blizzard, Belle and Winston were a sight that rescuers would never forget. Belle, a traumatized Husky, had taken on the role of protector and guide for her tiny companion—Winston, a blind Chihuahua. She wore a cowbell around her neck so he could follow the sound and stay close, even through snow and freezing wind. When they were finally discovered, Belle was curled up on top of Winston, shielding him not just from the cold, but from the unfamiliar humans trying to help.

Before this life-saving rescue, the pair had ended up at animal control more than once. After their final stay, their previous owners chose not to claim them, leaving the two dogs without a home. That’s when foster mom Stephanie stepped in.

It didn’t take long for Stephanie to realize that Belle had deep trust issues. She snarled when anyone came near, unsure of who she could rely on. Stephanie gave her space, patiently waiting for Belle to come forward when she felt safe. And then, one day, she did. Belle approached Stephanie on her own terms—and in that moment, everything changed. Stephanie knew this bond couldn’t be broken. She officially adopted both Belle and Winston.

Since then, Belle’s gentle and nurturing nature has continued to shine. Beyond protecting Winston, she now extends her love to foster kittens and bunnies, treating them as if they were her own. She gently snuggles them and even lies across them protectively when Stephanie tries to pick them up.
