Imagine this: you’re watching your regular evening news, and suddenly, a fluffy little dog walks into the weather report. That’s not a blooper — that’s Storm, the mini Goldendoodle who’s now a familiar face on television. He’s not just there for fun; Storm has become known as the “Weather Dog” and is stealing hearts (and scenes) across the country during live broadcasts.
Storm belongs to Anthony Farnell, a well-known meteorologist who’s been forecasting the weather since 2003. Since becoming Chief Meteorologist at Global Toronto in 2006, Anthony has not only been giving weather updates but also sharing the screen with his four-legged friend.
The Story Behind Storm

Storm didn’t get his name by accident. It was actually chosen by fans through an online poll that Anthony hosted. And true to his name, Storm has been shaking things up — in the best way — ever since, often popping up in the middle of weather segments. “Storm the Weather Dog is what he is commonly referred to,” says Anthony.
The little dog first caught public attention when he made a surprise appearance during a news story. It just happened to be “Take Your Dog to Work Day,” and Anthony brought Storm along. That innocent moment turned into a viral hit. “Thankfully it was during a good news story,” Anthony recalls with a smile.
A Regular on the News Set

Since then, Storm has become a regular guest during weather reports. He often walks into the frame while Anthony is delivering the forecast, casually becoming part of the show. The news team is used to his cameos by now, but viewers seeing him for the first time are usually surprised — and charmed.
“Though at the news agency, this scenario is already almost normal, people watching this the first time would see it a bit awkward, but nonetheless cute,” Anthony shares. Despite the occasional interruptions, the team keeps the show going smoothly. “As usual, Anthony and Storm still professionally pulled it off and managed to stay on course with the news,” one report noted.
While Anthony talks about sunshine or snow, Storm is often spotted quietly chewing on treats, always relaxed and perfectly comfortable on camera.

More Than Just a Cute Face

Storm isn’t just a TV personality — he’s part of the news family. “Storm makes a tour on every desk in the entire station looking for treats,” Anthony says. The only downside? He’s put on a bit of weight from all the snacks. But Anthony wouldn’t have it any other way. “It’s better for the dog to be with him than leave him at home, all alone. It makes work much easier, especially during long work days,” he adds.
Outside of the newsroom, Anthony and Storm are also active in the community. They visit schools to teach kids about weather, and they regularly take part in charity events like the Toronto Humane Society’s “Paws in the Park” and Global News’ “Dog Days Of Summer.”
So next time you’re watching the weather forecast, keep an eye out — Storm might just pop in to brighten your day.
