Although shrimp-keeping is an exciting and fulfilling hobby, it can also be very challenging as it requires careful attention to various factors to maintain a well-conditioned tank.
One of the essential things to consider when maintaining a vibrant community tank consisting of shrimp, betta fish, and other tropical fishes is the water quality. Read about Alder cones before you dump a bunch of these in a small tank!
Pretty good deal if you don’t have Alder trees around where you can harvest them in the wild. There are an unusual number of reviews talking about these killing their fish and shrimp. I think you need to realize that the alder cones are basically tannin bombs, so if you throw a handful of these into a tank, it’s gonna throw all your parameters off overnight, which most fish won’t be able to deal with easily.I would recommend boiling these first and then adding a couple at a time and monitoring things like pH. I added 4 boiled cones to my 40 gallon and there were more than enough leftover tannins. I plan on monitoring for a week and then adding a few more until the bag is gone.

Perfect for betta tank
I am so glad I purchased these. They were so much cheaper here than at the pet store. What I like to do with them is get a cone or 2 out then place it in a cup.of water to draw some of the color out. I know it is beneficial but I don’t want my tank water that dark. I replace the water in the cup about 2 or 3 times. The. I put them in my tank and they still give off color. I recommend. The quality is wonderful and all were in great condition.

So if you did not watch the video DO NOT GET THIS OR YOULL REGRET IT!!! I placed these into the tank and in less than 10hrs everything in my tank was dead EVERYTHING!!! OVER 100 BUCKS DOWN THE DRAIN!!! IM HIGHLY UPSET!! I placed them in at 9 woke up for work turn on the light boom everything gone!! I cried and had to go to work knowing I can’t do anything. Luckily my pea puffers ( in a different tank ) I didn’t put that many in so my lovely mother did a quick water change for me so I wouldn’t be late to work like I already was!!! So first thing in the morning I lost all my fish, snails, and black worms and was late to work. I have know idea how this has good stars and I don’t know how people are keeping there fish alive with this maybe I got a bad batch ( by the way yes I boiled it) ( I actually boiled it for more than an HR because I didn’t want my water to get to dark) not happy very sad and I have no more fishies… Please….. Save your fish from the torture… Don’t get this product…

Soak them!
Heads up, you may want to soak them a little before putting them in your tank. The water will be brown (tannins are good, I know). Soak them a little first to make your water less brow.

Nice cones, they are a good size and many were 2 or three on a stem. They look really good. SOAK them. I did not and they made my water every dark. My shrimp dont seem to mind but just be aware that they will definitely stain your water if you throw them straight in. Im happy with them.

Turned my aquarium brown.
I should have soaked and rinsed a few times for a few days them for a few days first. I only added 3 of them to my 10 gallon tank. They turned my aquarium so dark brown and it’s still not clear after 2 days with multiple filter cleanings.Other than that, delivery was on time and the fish don’t seem to mind.
