Intriguing and Cool for Adventurous Cats
This cat exercise wheel really intrigued me as I’ve always wanted to get one for my cats. I have a “fat cat” who really needs to lose weight so this is perfect for him. Unfortunately, he doesn’t feel the same way I do and is not interested as of this review.Some of the instructions were unclear and there were parts that were labeled incorrectly. My husband is quite handy, so he was able to figure it out rather quickly. It ended up taking a couple of hours to complete the assembly of the cat wheel. There are a lot of screws to tighten and although it comes with a manual screwdriver, he recommends using a battery-operated screwdriver to get the job done a little faster. The cat wheel is large and takes up a lot of space so make sure you have room for it. The wheel is sturdy and rolls smoothly. All five cats were curious about the new item but weren’t too sure what to do with it. After sitting in my living room for a week only one of my cats (the youngest one) has taken a real shine to it. He has completely figured it out and actually runs on it. I really enjoy watching him on it. To be honest he is trying to get his favorite toy we tied on the bar, so I recommend doing that to entice your cat.I love the light color of the birch wood as it looks good in my home. I wouldn’t have ordered it if it was a darker color. There is a small bookshelf above the wheel and on the other side of the scratcher. It seems unnecessary to me. I’m not sure what to put there or if I even will put anything in that spot.In conclusion, this cat wheel is really cool and even better if your cat will use it.

Giant cat exercise wheel; patience and time required for assembly **safety concern updates
Update due to important safety issue: Now that we’ve had the wheel assembled and in use for a couple of weeks, we noticed a major safety issue. Our cats have been jumping on the very top of the wheel, which then starts to turn, and the cats fall down between the wheel and the tall side with the shelf, which traps them underneath the wheel and unable to get out. Even with the wheel lock installed, they can still fall down into this tiny space and get trapped. So it’s not safe to have out without human supervision, which defeats the purpose (and it would be a huge hassle to move it in/out of areas the cats can access).Second update: We ended up removing the second and third boards from the bottom of the tall side with sisal (leaving the very bottom board attached for stability), then tucked the extra sisal up inside the boards. Then we placed a pillow on the floor in that opening and turned that little space into a cat bed, which to be honest is currently more popular than using the wheel.Original review: Cat Exercise Wheel, 40″: This cat wheel is massive! It arrives disassembled in a very heavy box (team lift required), with instructions for assembly. The instructions are not perfect; I noticed either an error in the instructions or some mislabeled parts in just the first two steps that caused me some frustration. Fortunately I was able to figure out what I needed to do instead (I also had to modify a later step as the instructions seemed to have you put together a section and then take it apart to attach to the rest, which didn’t make sense). The various screws are all in a single bag and it takes a little detective work to figure out which ones to use for which steps. The kit comes with a screwdriver, which is handy, and a pair of gloves, which aren’t explained. After I finished the assembly, I realized the gloves probably would have prevented some of the soreness in my hands from manually tightening more than 100 screws! The video included in this listing does not quite match the instructions, and the person uses a power screwdriver, which definitely would have been more efficient. It took me 5 hours to put this together.After all my efforts, I have to say this wheel looks nice. I started “training” my cats on how to use it, and to my relief they are starting to understand the concept of scratching and chasing the toys to keep the wheel moving. I even found one cat sitting inside the wheel and waiting for me to help her turn it (she’s pretty tiny and has a hard time getting it moving on her own). Hopefully this will provide them with some entertainment and exercise.
