The noise level receives mixed feedback – while some love the sound of the purring, others find it too loud. Customers disagree on the toy’s durability, with some reporting it holding up surprisingly well while others say it breaks after a couple of months. Excellent soft, soothing security toy.
Huge success! Introducing a new kitten to two older cats can be stressful. This purr monster is excellent for soothing all three of them! The sound masks the low growling and provides a humorous distraction. It also allows the kitten to relax and self-sooth while confined in a carrier, the safety of the crate, or while quarantined in a bathroom. The fur is very silky, it’s nice and flat, and the purr sound is remarkably realistic. I only wish that it played for more than two minutes between activations. Just ordered a second one to have on hand.[UPDATE] Two months later… I have removed the purr boxes and washed the hair gel out of both of the monsters, and reassembled them. Kitty still adores them, and a good kneading session has become part of his bedtime routine. Have a supply of extra batteries, but haven’t had to replace them yet![UPDATE] Aaaawwww… RIP Purr Monster 2 …. Poor baby drowned in the water bowl last night… found him dead this morning after the kitty tried to share his water with his best friend! So saaadddd. Monster recovered, but he’s lost his voice…. Buying a new one! Still the favorite toy!![UPDATE] Kittie is now three years old and we STILL loves this toy. We enjoy nightly snuggle sessions, 10-15 minutes, batteries last a couple of months. Back to buy a fresh one for his birthday. The old ones still work well with fresh batteries every few months.

Purr sound is much too loud; kitten had to get used to it
Update: After a week or so, the kitten I bought this for decided she loved it. I had to regularly wash it because of how much she would suckle on it. It’s now two months later, and she always wants this when she goes to sleep. It’s mostly always on the bed in my office, and she comes in and kneads on it before falling asleep. If I don’t notice she’s come in, she’ll meow at me to turn it on since she can’t push the button hard enough. The other cats ignore it completely, so it’s no longer scary for them; just not interesting. Upping to 4 stars since it just took her some time to get used to it. I would give 5 stars if it were easy enough to push the button for her to turn it on herself when she needs it and if it took AAA batteries or something more common.Original: I have an 8 week old kitten my neighbor brought me when he saw her thrown into the highway at 3 weeks old. While she has a wonderful playmate in the kitten about 3 months older that had followed me home on a walk a week before getting her, she still shows signs of missing her mother when I cuddle her, so I thought the purring pillow would help for the times I can’t cuddle her when she wants. Unfortunately, it’s too loud and all of my cats hate it, with my male who has adopted the kittens trying to kill it and drag it away from them after seeing the kittens scared, not in a fun, playful way, but in a stressy, protective way, which I have to admit was cute and sweet.I don’t have a cat’s hearing and am not laying my head on it, and I think it’s much too loud and sounds almost more mechanical than real because of that. It also doesn’t look anything like the picture either, which they don’t care about, but it’s not nearly as cute as I expected it to be. I’ll give it 3 stars because the baby kitten is sleeping cuddled up to it as I write this as long as I don’t turn it on, but it’s disappointing to not be able to give her as much comfort as I had hoped.

Pretty good, purr too loud
I got this for our kitten. The purr mechanism was too loud and scared her when it came on. She did later warm to it and played with it so not a total failure. It is a pity because it is cute and soft.

Took some time but it soothes my girl
I recommend most for kittens and for cats who have lost another cat, say if you had 2 cats and one passed away or is no longer there. This may help with grief/loneliness. I also recommend for kittens. Kittens are born blind and deaf, so purring is how mother and kitten communicate. Purring also helps soothe and heal all stressed cats/kittens. It communicates safety. The purr on this may seem slightly loud or mechanical to us humans but is not abnormal to a cat. Just give it some time.I got this for young (around 6moâs) feral gal I recently took in. She was young enough that feral bit wasnât SO intense, but had only lived outside so distrusted anything sheâd never seen outdoors before, like pillows, beds, etc. I tried various thing to help her adapt. Sheâd lived with an older Tom in my neighbors recently vacant yard, but he took off a few weeks before I was able to get her in and thought this toy might help her both with boredom & loneliness. She didnât like or trust it much at first. When Iâd turn it on sheâd avoid it, and when I turned off she ignored it. I kept it in her room for a few weeks without turning on and now that sheâs settled in, she loves to cuddle kick it when I turn it on. Sheâll wrap her arms and legs around it, cuddle it, and kick at same time. She purrs when she does it so I think it must offer some level of comfort and companionship. The Velcro is strong, which is good. I wouldnât normally leave anything with battery near any animal, but the batteries are in a well sealed plastic box, which is tucked inside toy, and the strong velcro seals that box in.I think the amount of time itâs on, abt 90 secs maybe, is good amount of time, tho I wish there was an option to have it turn on every half hour or so as my cat hasnât been able to turn it on alone yet. That said, after Iâve turned it many times before, she now enjoys it even while off because she associates it with the purr she has heard from it before, so for the price I think itâs worth it.

Nice design, and great idea, but fabric its very rigid and not soft enough for kitten to snuggle with it.

Love the plush pillow, both cats enjoy snoozing on it. They’re not impressed with the snoring feature, but it is easily turned off or removed. Great.
