Dang this birdseed has gotten expensive (over $60/20 lb bag)
Coleâs Hot Meats have been my vertical birdfeedersâ go-to for many years. The beautiful little winter birds (cardinals, chickadees, junkos, sparrows, and more) love it so much, the jays canât really access enough to gorge, and generations of squirrels and chipmunks (yes, chipmunks climb!) have learned to steer clear. But the past few years itâs gotten so expensive, Iâve taken to gift myself a bag at Christmas!Edited: After I saw my 3-star review became the âtop critical review,â I read the other lower reviews. My sole complaint was how expensive the seed has gotten over the years. The seed itself has been FABULOUS in my experience â itâs attracted every single winter songbird Iâve wanted to attract, and completely deterred every rodent. So I bumped my review up to 5 stars. BTW, Iâm pretty sure some of the poor reviews aren’t even of this product!

Squirrels wonât touch it!
I love feeding my birds but donât want the squirrels to eat everything in two seconds. Hot Meats are the perfect answer although you do have to be careful not to get it in yours eyes when the wind is blowing, yes I have done it!!! And wash your hands afterwards!!!The birds love it, the squirrels have their own food elsewhere so all are happy! Great product.

It works!
I was having a hard time with the squirrels emptying out the bird feeders. I stumbled soon this and gave it a try. It is expensive but works perfectly! No more squirrels. Now I have so many lively birds I am refilling my feeders every 3 days- because the birds are emptying the feeder! It is worth the money for all the enjoyment the birds bring.I will look for a squirrel feeder for our furry friendsð

Expensive- but it keeps the squirrels away
Birds love it, squirrels seem to avoid it.

Lots of birds, no squirrels
It works. Small birds love it and squirrels won’t come near it. I’ve been through two bags in three weeks during a cold January.

Keeps the squirrels out though it’s pricey
You will receive three reviews in one today!REVIEW FROM HUMAN: Visually it looks to be good quality, and the packaging is fine. This was more effective as a squirrel deterrent than mixing cayenne pepper into cheaper food. Minus 1 star only due to price.BIRD REVIEW: Pretty tasty but not as much variety as our prior fruit and seeds blend. But the squirrels have avoided it, allowing us to eat in peace.SQUIRREL REVIEW: This is awful!!! It tastes horrible. How can those stupid birds eat this stuff??? Just smelling it makes me run away. Bring back the other feed and peanuts!!!!

Squirrel/Bear relief
I live in Alaska and love feeding the local birds. However, we have bears on our deck every summer and nuisance squirrels at our feeder. I can’t say enough about this feed. We have actually had bears on our deck this past summer that completely ignored the feeder sitting on the deck railing!! No more squirrel problem either. We have even been able to mix in some of the regular black sunflower seeds to help stretch it out. It is a bit pricey, but worth it to be able to enjoy the birds. We still have to be wary of bears, but they aren’t after our bird feed. Highly recommend!
