Works great, birds are happy
Installation is super simple. Use the included clips to mount the LED light strip and then mount the switch box where it gets daylight, and plug the adapter into an outlet or extension cord. You can use the switch to turn the light on or off (handy for evening bed check to make sure everyone is in there). Otherwise just ignore it and it turns the light on for a while every morning.When I got this I couldn’t figure out how it works. The problem is it’s too simple and I was trying to make it complicated. Still, it would be nice if they included a description of how it works.So here’s what I figured out. There’s a light sensor on the switch box, so you’ll want to mount this where it gets good light. Mine is in a well lit barn and it gets enough light to work properly. When the sensor detects that the sun has set (light has faded away) it starts a 9 hour timer. After 9 hours it turns the light on for a few hours. This way the birds still get a natural sunset, which is important if you want them to put themselves away in the coop before sunset. After only 2-3 days I have noticed my free range chickens are returning to the coop about an hour earlier than normal. I think this shows that they started their day earlier, and haven’t yet adjusted to the longer day. I expect they will adjust over the next few days and then hopefully egg production will pick up.
