Birds yes, squirrels no
I have some bird feeders in front of my window so my cats watch the birds from the safety of the windowsill. If I put regular food out, the squirrels devour it within a few hours. The bi4ds love these hot pepper suet cakes and the squirrels don’t touch them. Don’t worry, I do toss out some peanuts for the fancy rats, so they’re not starving.The cakes are pretty long-lasting and attract a wide variety of birds. Just this week, I’ve had wrens, chickadee, bluebirds, three different kinds of woodpeckers, juntos, towhees, and the first robin I’ve seen this year.The only warning I feel i need to pass on is this: wash your hands immediately after you fill the feeders. Do not, under and circumstances, touch your face until you do so.

This is the answer to squirrels and any other varmint that wants to raid the bird suet. Game over. I do note it took the birds a few days before they considered it (beats me why), but once that was over, they’ve been rocking it and it’s ALL going to the birds. It’s a beautiful thing. Just ordered another box.

No Squirrels!
I like to feed the birds addition to seed, but the squirrels are always a problem. This product with the red pepper deters the squirrel, but the birds still enjoy it. Wood peckers, nut hatches, titmouse, cardinals and jays all came to the suet.

As advertised Squirrels donât like this chili infused Suet. I like buying in a bulk pack so there is always food for the birds in the winter. I get a lot of sparrows but also other birds like junkos.

With the cold weather, the birds can’t get enough. Red headed woodpecker thinks it’s his and chases the other birds away. Hubby put a second one out to stop the fighting. Also the red pepper keeps the squirrels away from it.

Great Deal!
We were buying these individually from another store, but the crows and wild turkeys love it so we’re now getting the 8 pack on auto-ship! Good news is the squirrels don’t like it. When it gets low, we can hear the crows fussing. We have it hooked on the fence around the pond–the turkeys can’t reach it, but they run over to it when the crows are out and about–waiting for pieces to drop to the ground for them. (But fear not, there is a feeder on the ground with corn for the turkeys so they do have something else to eat.)

Birds eat it but mammals don’t; birds are not sensitive to hot pepper. It’s good enough, but I can get it for much less at Home Depot, even though they charge for delivery and Amazon Prime does not. It’s a year round suet. C&S calls those doughs, while they call their winter-only suets delights. It’s probably too hard for winter feeding in very cold climates. It’s fine in Southern New England.
