Covered by U.S. Patent No. RE45,586. Protection, durability, comfort, affordability and a saddle that stays on, have been the driving forces behind our design. Make sure to watch the video on our listing for instructions on how to put it on. The elastic is high quality for durability which makes it tight to stretch, so the right technique is important, but once it is on it has no pressure on the bird. We grow out about 300 young birds each year and have been using these small PVC saddles as a preventative to stop feather pecking even before it starts. They are for young birds from about 7 weeks and can be installed as soon as the bird is large enough and left on until the saddle is too small for them, at about 14 to 17 weeks. If they shake the saddle off, the birds are still too small for it. It is best to install the saddles at night time as they will settle down more quickly with it and wake up the next day without it being much of an issue. It is normal for them to try and get it off using whatever method they can, but they will not be hurt in trying. Just be patient and they will get used to it, usually within a few hours. They are particularly helpful when growing out young males together, as males are renowned for feather pecking backs, tails and shoulders. Don’t be put off because they are made from PVC and not canvas, (like our saddles for Standard size chickens), because the PVC suits this purpose amazingly well. It is very lightweight and low cost, but very tough and the birds soon learn how to move it away from their backs for airflow and dust bathing. Even though they have mainly been designed to prevent feather pecking, they can also be used for breeding protection on bantams and smaller breeds of chickens. We have used our saddles without any problems in heavy rain falls, heavy frosts and even in the middle of summer when it can get over 100 degrees. The saddles are guaranteed for 12 months for any reason, however I expect you would get a few seasons out of them without any problems.

Fits My Bantam
Overall good product! The back is sturdy and kept my hen safe from bullying! The shoulder straps were a little small, but stretching them out fit her perfectly. Easy to shorten if needed 🙂

Cute, adorable
Perfect for my 6week old who is a rebel. I secured a piece of boning across the back to stiffen it so she can’t squeeze through the fence. Easy to put on, thanks to the product video. Material is flexible, lightweight, durable, and well made.

Almost permanently damaged my young chicken…
I got these saddles for my 7 week old chicks after I noticed one was having it’s back feathers pecked off by one of her brood-mates. I bought from this company before and got a reliable product for bigger chickens and though this was similar. There’s one elastic band on it that is far too small to fit around both wings. I tried every way I could to put it on but as I’m putting her second wing through it got stuck and tightly pinned to her body. I’ve never heard a chick scream in pain the way she did. She clawed out of my hands, screamed and rolled around on the ground in severe pain. When I was finally able to calm her down and slowly peel the cursed thing off of her she hung her wing and limped around for a bit. I was afraid she my have broken it but after inspecting her closely her wing is intact, just in a little pain. Please do not torment your tiny chickens with this saddle. The bigger sizes are fine but this one needs major reworking. Maybe a strong, adjustable velcro strap instead of super tight elastic?

Perfect size for my bantams, butâ¦
I found one of these on the coop floor torn at the sewn corner/elastic joint portion. So while the entire material is durable, once thereâs some weakness near the edge (ie: holes from sewing) and maybe an overzealous rooster, it tears fairly easily.Putting these on the birds is not easy! Some of my girls are spunky and donât like being held, so trying to get this tight elastic over their second wing is a challenge. Once itâs on, I even out the elastic band for their comfort and itâs not tight, but the initial process is difficult on them and me, even if I have help.

Great design!
Read the description. These saddles are for pullets and/or very small breed chickens. As is, theyâre even too small for my Silkies. The material used and design with the wing covers attached is great. I took off the elastic and replaced with longer elastic pieces. With this modification, I was able to fit them on some of my bantams. Itâs a great design that I wish they would make available in larger sizes.

Perfect!
These are perfect for my smaller girls!! They were raw from our rooster and needed some protection for their feathers to grow back!

Not chicken approved, but I like it ð
So, this chicken has never known how to chicken. She would literally squat for a skunk. I have to pick her up and put her in the coop every night. I consider her my special needs chicken and the roosters love her because she doesn’t run from them, so I ordered these aprons. They went on really easily, but she is a Silkie, so she is small. I dont think these would work for a full sized chicken. I took her inside so hopefully she can get used to her new clothes without being harrassed by the others today because she is clearly struggling with it. I will update again in a few days. Hopefully she acclimates to it. If this chicken can get used to it any chicken can. She is my favorite, and is SO sweet, but is also SO SO special.
