Small, flimsy, difficult. But helpful.
Itâs much smaller and flimsier than the ones when we parents were kids. You have to pull down hard and long even for an adult for it to work or else itâll just spin with no sound at all. The images of the animals are small and not as clear as they could be. I was surprised for such a classic toy. That said, I use it as a helpful speech therapy tool with my child. For example, I manually move the arrow, point to the picture of a pig, and say âpiggy oink oink,â etc.

Decent but not practical
Got this for my 18 month old to practice his speaking skills, and I like it so far (havenât taken it out of the box yet). The lever is easy to pull, and the sound is (super) loud and clear, but I donât plan on letting my son use it alone, yet..just for teaching purposes. One thing to know is that you must point the arrow at the picture you want to hear FIRST, or else youâll pull the lever and hear an animal sound that doesnât match the picture in which the arrow lands. For that reason, you canât pull the lever back to back and expect to hear a sound; youâll have to change the position of the arrow. Other than that hiccup, itâs a cute toy, especially for less than $10! Iâd recommend!Update: Now that weâve unboxed the toy and played with it a few times, Iâve noticed that itâs very frustrating to use. It is very difficult to hold the device with your left hand and pull the lever with your right. There is a handle, but it is inconveniently placed at the top of the toy rather than on the left side where a person could get a firm grip before attempting to pull the lever. Also, the fact that you canât pull the lever back to back is super annoying. Youâre forced to keep pointing to a different animal, and when the arrow spins, it points to yet another animal. I gave 3 stars because all the sounds work, and they match the animals.

I ordered one of these for my one year-old as I had one when I was a kid and my mom says I loved it. This one is a little different than the one I had, itâs a little bit smaller and it has two separate layers of animals. This one has little guessing games and plays songs as well as naming the animals and making the animals noises. I like that it has a handle. Itâs very easy to use and my son loves playing with it and learning the animals.
