Product Description
Natural Egg Laying Habits
In the wild Angelfish and Discus will seek out broad sword plant leaves to spawn. This natural instinct will also cause them to lay eggs on plants in your aquarium.Even without plants a pair will sometimes pick a surface on area they can protect. Heaters and Filters being the most common but not ideal for raising successful hatches.
Fish will Clean the Slate Prior to Egg Laying
When you see the pair cleaning the slate eggs are soon to follow. It has a hook bent onto the top of the slate for hanging on the top rim of an aquarium. Designed with 29 and 20 gallon tall tanks in mind. Common sizes for Angel & Discus Pairs in bare breeder setups. The bottom tab maintains the angle of the slate for optimal egg laying and fertilization. If using in a tank with substrate you can bury it and use this slate without hooking in on the rim of a tank.
Fish will then Lay Eggs on the Slate
Place slate away from strong currents for best fertilization. The 2″ wide by 13.5″ tall egg laying portion has been sanded to simulate the leaf of a sword plant. This provides a better surface for the eggs and fry to adhere.Green Acrylic Blends in nicely with planted tanks.
Safe Lightweight Alternative to Ceramic and Natural Slate
100% acrylic one piece design wont change water chemistry. In a glass aquarium, especially a bare bottom breeder setup, the lightweight acrylic is safer than slate or tile if the fish or fish keeper accidentally knock it over while its in use.Works great for bare bottom since it does not touch the bottom of the tank. You can easily remove the slate once eggs are laid for treatment in methylene blue. Easy to clean and reuse.
Useful for both Parent Raising and Artificial Hatching
Slate can be used for artificial hatching and raising where you remove the slate and treat in methylene blue shortly after the eggs are laid. With multiple slates on hand, you can replace the slate you just removed with a fresh one.Slate can also be used for parent raising by simply leaving in the tank with the pair.

This thing works better than other types.
Final Update:38 gallon tank with two of these breeder plates. check the video. 4 Angel fish and they paired together at opposite sides of the tank. Eggs were deposited on same day. I have other fish that eat the eggs so you only see what is left. I’m too busy to raised fry at this time.UPDATE: It worked again! I removed it from the tank for a couple weeks and put it back last night after a partial water change. Eggs again this morning. Don’t worry about the price, it is worth it. Can’t believe I didn’t find this sooner. If you like to hatch the eggs in a grow out tank, this is so easy to move.5 starsI have raised angelfish for 10 years, using slate and other things. I bought this to put in a 38 gallon tank with 4 juveniles that were fighting. It was only intended to give the weaker ones a place to retreat when the bully swims about. For 2 weeks it worked. No more fighting. However, it did cause the 4 to pair up and now I have eggs on the plastic. Yes it is expensive, but it is so much easier to handle then slate or cones. Wash it well and rinse numerous times. Then get ready to hatch those eggs.

Nice color and texture
Reaches to about 3 inches off the bottom of a 40 breeder tank. Angle is nice. Maybe a bit too lightweight, but the bottom ledge let’s you add some weight to stabilize it.

Awesome piece and fast shipping.
My Angel fish mama loves it. She laid one set of eggs on a plant leaf instead of the piece but after that batch she always lays her eggs on it. Awesome piece and super simple. Arrived very fast as well.

Not made of slate
I misread the description. Angelfish love real slate or tile to lay on. Mine have yet to pay it any attention. Theyâd rather use the return pipe.
