What is this book about?
Do you suffer from “Pony Fever?” Have you been waiting a long time to add a horse to your family? We’ve all heard the saying, “horses are a lot of work.” But if dealing with your horse’s attitude is taking up all of your time, energy, and money, it might be time to take a closer look at what’s going on. A horse is a horse, but this is your horse. ✓ What are your plans for your horse once you’ve signed on the line and paid? ✓ Do you have a trainer lined up? As humans, we have relied upon horses for transportation and as work partners for years. While horses aren’t essential to our everyday survival now, they are still stunning companions who can provide endless enjoyment for their human caretakers. Has the time come for you to add a horse to your life? Are you getting ready for the “next level” in competition, and need a horse to campaign? Are you starting to get serious about equine sports and want your own pony to practice with every day? Have you ever watched your horse do something that defies human logic and wondered, “Why does my horse act this way?” If so, you’re not alone.

    Great resource!
As someone who’s both new to parenting and horses, this book helped me get up to speed in a way, “What to Expect When You’re Expecting” might.Although we have innate ways of caring for a child, that might not be the case when it comes to animals, especially large, beautiful beasts such as horses. That’s where this book came in and did it ever…like a lifeline. The areas that helped me the most were: Joining Up, Making an Equine Bucket List, and the all to familiar question I’m guessing most of us face in regards to whether to Build or Board. The Equine Bucket List was one I wouldn’t have thought of, but extremely useful as doing the exercise gives clarity and a roadmap, and those two things give calm and a sense of purpose. The book is filled with resources within the book and also an excellent list of additional areas to explore at the end.Really loved this book! It not only got me up to speed as a newbie, but I could really tell the author loves horses and has been in my shoes before, as she comes from a non-horsey household. She explains things very clearly and the book organically brought up questions in my own mind that I need to answer so I have the best relationships with my new friends moving forward.Thank you, Meredith Hill, for putting together such an excellent resource and sharing your love of these animals…it really shines through in your words. Outstanding book!

    Interesting Book
As a non horse owner, I actually learned quite a bit from this book. I never realized the amount of care and attention that goes into owning such a majestic animal. The first chapters were captivating, but toward the end I personally wasn’t interested in riding techniques and styles and competition tips. My uncle, who lived in the country, used to say he didn’t agree with people buying horses and just leaving them in a pasture to fend for themselves. Now I see why. Did enjoy the book overall.

    Good quality material, overboard advice
I’m not a fan of the advice given in a good portion of this book. There may be high end horses that need this picky of care but I’m grateful I’ve never owned one like that.
