Iâve been using this little heater for about a month now in my 5 gallon cube tank & so far itâs working great! I specifically picked this heater because it doesnât have any little holes on the sides like some of the other brands do – I have very tiny Sexy Shrimp & Bumble Bee Shrimp in there so I was very concerned about them possibly getting caught in the holes. The temperature is super easy to set & seems to be accurate when I compare it using my digital thermometer pen & also the little digital thermometer that I keep attached to the side of my tank. When I first started using it, I found that it was getting a little warmer than the temp I was setting it to so I set it slightly lower. The second day using it, I was able to set it to the temperature I wanted & it has been accurate & working perfectly ever since. Iâm thinking maybe the heater just needed a little time to calibrate itself or something. The only thing I noticed it that it makes a very slight humming noise while on to heat up when it drops below the set temperature. Itâs barely audible unless your standing right next to your tank in a completely silent room but I just figured Iâd mention it. I highly recommend this little heater & will definitely buying more of them in the future.UPDATE 08/07/20I am now using it in my 5 gallon Fluval Spec which even though itâs the same amount of water, this tank is much longer than the 5 gallon cube I was using it in so I needed a little more flow for the heat to spread evenly. Itâs still working but seems to consistently be off by about 2-3 degrees now no matter where I place it & even though Iâve made sure to keep it clean & free of any algae/debris. I was also hoping that occasionally unplugging it to clean it would maybe reset/recalibrate it but itâs still slightly off. Basically if I want my water temperature at 78F, I have to set it for 80F. I always also keep a digital thermometer attached to the glass on all my tanks just as an extra precaution. I own several other Hygger products which have all been great but heaters in general just make me extremely nervous with so many horror stories in reviews!

Replacement delivered free, and functional.
This product became difficult for me to rate. It’s relatively small, perhaps large for a 5 gallon tank. However, it works really well. The led read out is a huge deal, and you shouldn’t have to worry about it during water changes because of the shut off. Mine died inside a year.So how does something that does in less than a year end up with 5 stars. Support. Hygger was informed of the error code and the order number, via email, and immediately processed a warranty replacement at no cost, and no shipping cost. Replacement was not Prime fast, but acceptable. Here is another reason it got 5 stars. This one lasted 11 months in a 5 gallon. One in another tank, from a company I shall not name, died after a month. I had some dead fish in that month. Turns out it was that other heater. When I say it died, what really happened is the thermostat went and it began heating the water much hotter than I asked for. On the hygger when it went it said HH and stopped heating. Bonus points for dying well. HH is an error code relating to temperature, if I recall. I believe this worked as a failsafe and prevented the fault from overheating the water. Hopefully I get a reasonable lifetime out of the replacement.

Keeps the tank at Betta temps, even in a cool house.
Iâve tried several heaters to keep my 10 gallon tank at 79°, which seems to be my Bettaâs happy temp. All others have struggled to keep it there during the winter months when my house temp is set at 66° (when you live in Texas, you enjoy a cool house!) The only way Iâve been able to keep this tank at 79° before using this heater was to place two heaters in the tank, with one on each end. (Betta tank means not high current flow. Low current flow means itâs harder to heat the entire tank). This one got the temperature right where Iâd set it and has stayed consistently there ever since. I double check it with my temp gauge and find it is surprisingly accurate. No need for a second heater. For my application, this one works better than all of the more expensive ones Iâve tried. And Iâve tried them all!

I have had this heater since the later part of 2022 and it is still going strong with excellent temperature control for my 10gallon tank!

Temp is off my a few point degrees, but my fish is very happy with the water temp. This is so much better than my other heater

For a top of the line heater, i’ve actually had better heaters maintain temperature. This heater isnt horrible, but is definitely colder than what you set it to. I tested it with 2 tanks, i set my elite to 80 and the Hygger to 80, and the hygger was way colder to the touch, it was about 72-74. So if you are looking for a heater with a stock of fish that they can tolerate varying temps, its totally fine. I have this for my 10 gallon betta tank and its okay. I have it set to 85 and ill keep it that way. The pic with the temp is what it set itself to, so definitely dial it up when you get it set up.

Summary: 2 new heaters failed, one within a weekThe story:I purchased this heater aprox. 3 months ago and until two weeks ago, besides occasionally becoming unstuck from the side of the aquarium, it was working perfectly. About two weeks ago I noticed that it was making a very high pitched squealing noise (like a tea kettle). I contacted Hygger and they sent me a replacement right away. However they didn’t ask for any kind of proof that the product was malfunctioning or ask me to send it back, which should have raised a red flag. The replacement promptly arrived two days later. When I installed it I noticed that the temp reading was lower than the actual temperature, so I adjusted the setting accordingly (it was only off 2degrees). A week later I noticed that my fish weren’t as active and the sticker colour thermometer on the front wasn’t reading anything. Despite the light indicating that the heater was on, it was a full 10 degrees cooler than the temp setting, meaning the heater had failed.Pros: cheap, works well when it works, good customer serviceCons: imprecise temp reading, poor suction (from the suction cups), unreliable

I ordered this for a Fluval Flex 9 gallon. Works great in fits in the blocked off portion of the tank perfectly. Works great and has the accuracy I was looking for. Will buy more in the future for sure.As mentioned above I have bought another on for a 10 Gallon tall tank recently. These really are a good little heater.
