JW Clean Water Silo for Birds
The shipping was very fast and the product came well-packaged.I bought this for my starling because he likes to grab his own poop and fling it into the water cup. He also enjoys tearing up the newspaper and submerging the strips into the water. He also figured out that newspaper is weaker when it is wet so he tries to intentionally tip water out of the cup onto the newspaper or wet his beak to enable the newspaper to be soaked, after which he drills holes in the lining or he goes ham and tears up the paper. He also tries to wash his head in the cup on occasion. I have been using double or triple the usual amount of newspaper so he doesn’t destroy it as easily but having to change the water 4x a day is not fun. What will I ever do if I need to go out for the day and he fouls the water? Enter this water silo. I rinsed it out and filled it with filtered water. My cage is slightly curved on the sides. After some repositioning, I was finally able to get the water silo attached to the cage wall into a position where it is slightly tilted forward. This allows the water to fill the trough slightly more in the front, enabling my starling to drink more easily. He has a long beak and I was worried that the trough would be too shallow. It took him just a couple of seconds to figure out it is a water dispenser. He is usually deathly afraid of anything new I add to the cage, especially brightly-colored things, so he surprised me with his willingness to use the trough and his lack of fear. This is the first time he hasn’t freaked out due to something new since he was a fledgeling. The water silo has been mounted off the floor of the cage so my starling needs to climb up on a perch to drink. This has eliminated all his newspaper and poop shenanigans and he likes to peck and probe the body of the water silo, so it is also sort of like a new toy. I can finally use a normal amount of newspaper. The attachments are secure and easy to figure out. For the price, it seems to be doing a wonderful job. The stopper doesn’t have one of those sensitive ball designs that can easily get clogged by foreign matter. You can choose to remove just the water tube or the entire trough along with it, although the latter takes a little coaxing. Much more convenient than unscrewing the entire thing every time you want to change water or clean the silo or trough. I don’t get these negative reviews, you can even remove the screw and nut to reverse the direction you want to mount this thing in. I can see the attachments maybe loosening up with heat or sheer age but for the price, this is a wonderful addition to my starling cage.

Great product! I explain how to use it!
Excellent product! I am shocked by the negative reviews, as it sounds like most reviewers just didn’t understand how to use it.When refilling this water silo, you can remove the entire trough with the silo by lifting up to remove it from the grooves that hold it in place. It works best on vertical bars. If you have only horizontal bars, you will have to remove the entire holder when you want to clean the trough. You can also remove just the silo, by lifting it up, out of the silo, but a little water might spill.Take the trough and silo to the sink, holding it upright. If you tip it upside down, it’s going to spill. You need to wash the trough regularly because this is where bacteria is going the be most likely to build up. You should be rinsing/cleaning the trough and silo at least every other day to prevent bacteria and algae buildup. Clean it using a brush and warm water with blue dawn, or other suitable mild cleaner. Rinse well.Fill the silo with clean water. Place the trough onto the silo BEFORE tipping it over. Do this over the sink. There. No spills. Replace the trough on the holder by sliding the trough between the bars and then down onto the grooves of the holder for a tight fit.If you are replacing only the silo, fill it fully and quickly turn it over, over the sink. The stopper should engage right away, but some water may spill. It sounds like a lot of people went to the cage and tipped the silo over as they placed it onto the trough, which is going to cause a lot more water to spill. For the person who thought he got a backwards product (see customer photos), all he had to do was unscrew it. It’s a nut and a screw, which are two individual pieces. It can be placed either way.If your product is damaged upon arrival, I would consider contacting the company. I bought two of these and they are perfect, but I have contacted different companies when I have received damaged products and they have asked me to email a photo of the damage and then just sent a new one without making me send the damaged one back. It’s worth a try.The trough is 1/4″ wide. (One quarter inch.) It is really only suitable for smaller birds, but if a conure can actually drink from it, then go for it.If a bird doesn’t like the trough, that is not a reflection of the product, as that is only your bird’s preference. This is a well designed product and I will get two more when I get a second bird. It really helps to keep the water clean, especially if it is placed up higher or away from any perches above. The bird will need a perch in front of the trough.

Works but Overly Complicated
It was hard to find a good water tube for my bird’s cage. Most tubes are cheap junk that leak. But the JW Clean Water Silo Bird Waterer does work without leaking. Unfortunately, it is an overly complicated water tube that is not easy to install or insert without spilling water. It has a small plastic ‘valve’ inside the bottom cup. If that valve is not placed perfectly, the tube will spill water when reattaching the tube after refilling it with water. This JW water tube is far better than most. However, I eventually found a basic water tube that doesn’t leak or spill water. It is very simple to install and insert. I like it much better. It is the Living World Combo Waterer and Feeder.

Been looking for this particular water dispenser. It’s easy to clean & fill with water. Without the need to inconveniently put your hands in the cage.Highly Recommended!

After years of squeezing the other makes of water feeders thought the bars it is great to finally find a product that works .It does not leak once in place due to the design .The only down side is I have a cage with horizontal bars so the item stays fitted until I clean the cage, which is not a problem as the tube just lifts out and when I change the water I soak up the remaining bit of water in the feeding part with a sheet of kitchen roll .I am happy with this product and have bought a second one as a back up .This item comes in a regular size and a tall I have one of each .

Much cleaner option than a water dish. The budgie has worked out how to drink from it.No more seed and feathers in his water container.Easy to assemble and attach to the cage.

I have a Hagen Vision cage for my budgie and bought this water silo to use instead of the ugly brown (I think it is officially ‘terracotta’ coloured) container supplied by Hagen. The JW silo does not fit the Hagen cage very well and changing the water a couple of times each day was a fiddly process. I would have put up with this but within a couple of days of use the silo developed a slow leak. It empties itself overnight — next morning the floor of the cage is soaking wet. I chucked it away and substituted with a drip bottle (the sort used for rodents with the ball bearing in the spout) bought from Wilkinsons (a cheap shop on the High Street). This was also a pain to change and I then started using a plastic water bowl which hooks to the bars of the cage and is a doddle to change (also from Wilko). I bought four bowls and just rotate them so the water is always fresh and clean. Typically, my budgie tends to ignore his official hygienic water supply and drinks from his bath(!) Whaddya gonna do? One other complaint — the illustration shows a bright green colour but the item supplied to me was an ugly white-yellow colour which put me in mind of dead skin and municipal urinals. I would have thrown the silo out even if it hadn’t leaked just on the basis that something that ugly should not be allowed.
