Leap Habitats

Leap

Leap

Leap has one goal- To use science and education to help bring you the best reptile care possible

Leap Habitats, designed in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, USA by reptile hobbyists that have over 25 years of experience designing and manufacturing lighting and pumps necessary for aquariums to thrive have expanded to apply the same expertise and care for animals to reptiles and amphibians alike.

Five Parameters Philosophy

Daylight, UV, Heat, Rainfall, Humidity. These are the keys to successful reptile keeping. Leap’s equipment and guidance is envisioned by reptile lovers, for reptile lovers and considers the needs of the animal first. This is not only important for your animal’s health; it is the cornerstone of responsible animal care. Learn how Leap is developing and educating the community about these parameters to revolutionize reptile and amphibian care.

Habitats

Habitats

Smarter, Better Habitats

Leap habitats are designed to best serve the animals they house. All habitats are designed to provide the correct amount of space, airflow, water retention and humidity for various species of reptiles and amphibians.

Within the habitat, lighting, UV. heating, misting, fogging (the five parameters) and substrate will come together to make the perfect home for your favorite animal!

The never before-seen ultra-lightweight and innovative design used in Leap habitats means easy customization, no chance of broken glass and the option to easily utilize common baker’s racks should your hobby grow.

Climate

Climate

The Rainfall and Humidity Parameters

Leap’s programmable Mister and Fogger address the two important parameters of Rainfall (4) and Humidity (5).

Both amphibians and reptiles require rainfall and humidity; to drink, to maintain healthy lungs and skin, and for other important biological processes.

Misting (rainfall) facilitates the inclusion of tropical plants in your Leap habitat to create beautiful and natural environments for your animal and provides drinking water for your animals in the most natural way.

The Leap Mister and Fogger incorporate programable volume and timing functionality to tuner rainfall and humidity to the specific needs of your habitat and animals.

Lighting

Lighting

The Daylight and UV Parameters

Leap offers two types of lighting for use with your Leap habitats. LED white light that simulates visible sunlight and Fluorescent T5 UV (5% and 10%) fixtures and bulbs. White light is important for animals in creating a day and night cycle to promote a healthy circadian rhythm. It also incorporates light in the blue and red spectrum that plants use in photosynthesis.

UV light is critical for reptiles and amphibians to synthesize Vitamin D3 which is critical for the metabolism of calcium.

    I love it!
When they tell you this is “fresh” then you should believe them! The freshness of this is like if you got fresh hardwood mulch very wet and then shredded it to such an extreme that the oils in the wood are now exposed to your skin when you handle it. I don’t think there is any harming in touching it, but I suggest you use gloves or your hands will smell like you have been using essential oils from forest trees. I assume this is not a smell of something it was treated with, since it is advertised as being so natural, but this smell is strong enough to make you wonder. So, it’s true what the advertisement says about the response they expect when you open it. You will know right away that this is not like the last dirt you bought. This seems like a great idea, because people can get this small potent quantity, and mix it with dirt they are already using. Either way, I am anxious to get this into my terrarium. I bet the way it smells might discourage some bugs I don’t like in my terrarium like gnats and moths. I could be wrong, but I’m right about this product being great! Trust me on that!

    Eucalyptus or Cedar Smell
It has great texture and natural earth color, BUT it has a strong smell of eucalyptus or cedar, which my corn snake did not like. In fact, he came out of his hide and leaned up against the glass with his head pointed upwards towards the screen top. I also tried it with isopods. They went to the surface and they situated themselves on top of the log cave, away from the Living Earth Substrate. Then out of curiosity, I tried Living Earth Substrate for a Madagascar Hissing Cockroach. She did not like it, either. She went to the surface and crawled on top of a plant leaf, away from the Living Earth Substrate. The smell is so strong, I can be six feet away and I can still smell it. I removed all of it and went back to the aspen and coir mix.

    EXCELENT MIX.
I WAS CAUGHT OFF GUARD BY THE ODOR WHEN I OPENED THE BAGS. BUT IT CLEARED UP PRETTY WELL.
    I’LL BE BUYING MORE SOON.

    Perfect for our lizard
We got this substrate to use in our little lizards new tank and it is a very nice substrate. Because it’s already loose in the bag you just pour in the amount you need and spray with a little water to give your reptile the humidity it needs and your good to go. It is a shredded coconut fiber so it holds the moisture really well and would mix well with other types of substrate if you need to do so.

    Loose, Lofty, RICH
This is absolutely a great loose, lofty substrate. It consists almost exclusively of fine particles that fluff up and hold moisture without being wet.
Given the price, I think this would be a great addition to a bioactive enclosure as a supplement. In a humid vivarium it would make a great top layer to feed and sustain your CUC, and even in a more arid vivarium you could add more of this around the water dish to help with the humidity gradient and give your CUC an amazing cool and humid area to retreat to as desired.

    It STINKS!
It really looks like good substrate. It’s supposed to be perfect for bioactive terrariums. My bag came in with no problems, no punctures, packed well. I opened and the smell was more than I could handle. It’s rough. I ended up cutting it with ReptiSoil about 50/50, maybe a little heavier on the ReptiSoil. It helped but not a lot. After a few days the smell dissipated. I’m using it for a crested gecko and there’s been no issues.
I did contact the company and they said it was normal to have a strong not so pleasant smell. I plan to set up a true bioactive terrarium for my gecko in the next few months, but I’m not sure I can handle the smell to use this. It’s really strong for a while.
