Excellent for getting dirt and mud out of my dog’s coat
My dog has a short “double coat” and spends time at an offleash dog park every day, often wrestling and rolling around with other dogs and generally doing her best to grind as much dirt and mud into her coat as possible. I struggled to find a brush designed for dogs that had stiff, closely-packed bristles with a reasonable handle design (seriously, what is the deal with making brushes for animals with a stick handle that goes off to the side? that design is clearly optimized for a human brushing their own hair), so I looked for horse brushes instead and got this one based on the reviews. The brush is comically large for my 35-lb pup, but it works really well! It clears the dirt and mud from her coat very easily, and it also easily brushes away flakes from her skin between baths. I have a small boar-bristle brush that I use on her legs and face, where the fur is much shorter and the stiff bristles of the horse brush aren’t needed. I also use a Furminator to deshed her about once a week — this horse brush won’t pull out the undercoat hairs, but it is great for cleaning up the ones that the Furminator pulls up but doesn’t grab.Anyway, the brush is very comfortable to use, and I haven’t really had any problem using the tip of it to brush smaller areas on my dog like her chest and the sides of her neck. I have small hands, and the small end of the brush is a good size. I highly recommend it!

Great brush
This Oster brush works great and is very easy to hold. The way that it’s shaped makes it much more pleasant to hold than your standard horse brush. Will definitely be buying another one.

So far I like this brush very much
So far I like this brush very much. It is very affordable and works well to brush dirt and mud off my horses who have rolled in the pasture and need blankets put back on for weathering storms. I had a soft brush made by this company and loved it as the shaped handle is so nice and I used it more than the wooden style handles. My horses have natural coats and are not body clipped so the stiffness is needed to clean them off. None of them seemed to mind it and even the high strung Mustang as well as my TB were fine with it. It’s a Keeper ! My softer version never wore out, just got eaten by the Boxer Puppy ! Will buy the same brush again. They are well worth the price and a step up from old fashioned straight handled brushes. The shape of these make them easy to use and easy on the hands.

Much nicer and fits to hand, easier to glide across her coat.

Great brush!
Awesome brush! It’s just hard enough to get the stubborn dirt off but not too hard to where it hurts my horse. Would buy again!

The design fits my hand well and the stiff bristles do a good job on a muddy coat as well as brushing …
Oster products are well made to last and this brush is no exception. The design fits my hand well and the stiff bristles do a good job on a muddy coat as well as brushing the tangles out of mane and tail.

Oster Stiff Brush A++ — really lifts the dirt and easy to hold
This Oster stiff grooming brush really lifts the deep dirt and dust in my horse’s coat. I am finding that my horses no longer puff up a cloud of dust when I pat them in the winter (when there is less grooming and NO bathing). I like it ten times better than my old, standard shaped wooden brushes. The ergonomically shaped, padded back makes it much easier to hold and to use. I have chronic tendonitis in my hands and this brush is great. Plus — it WORKS!

Stiff?
Bristles are stiff but photo makes it look like a coarse bristle brush. It isn’t. Tightly packed, stiff bristles. I guess I’d call it more of a heavy finishing brush.
