Before Purchasing
Alright so for me personally, these are great. At this of purchasing they’re over half the cost of the same product at the Big Box Pet Stores, super heavy, large enough for my fish to use*, and the fish love ’em.(* dwarf cichlids, corydoras, plecos, and juvenile festivums. Any of the more streamline cichlids such as africans would absolutely fit in the standalone medium or larger. Anything bigger than a julie will probably not fit in the small/medium combo, and the small I use for a plant weight. Cute but useless.)That said, depending on what type of fish you have, this might not be the best choice. Something like a betta or fancy guppy with those long draping fins, I would look for something ceramic. Also depending on how willing you are to get a few scrapes while taking sandpaper to the openings and inside, same. These are very course, and if they scrape skin (these do) then it’s rough enough to scrape the scales of an active fish. However with a few scraped knuckles and some course sandpaper I got them smooth enough in about ten, fifteen minutes tops.Worth it to me, personally, because these are sturdy and large enough for my corydoras to gather up in a little piles as they prefer to do, and the price is worth the effort of sanding.

Good for Bettas — Read Review First!
I recommend this stone for betta fish BUT…. as it is, it is not completely safe. The stone is very rough and will tear their fins. However, some people have hand sanded these stones to smooth them out. Quite time consuming! I agree, this stone needs sanding if you’re planning on using it in a tank that houses a betta. If you want to save time and complete the sanding easily, USE A DREMEL! It works fast and does a great job. One person said it took them 1 hour to get the stone smooth enough using sandpaper by hand. Another said right at 30 min. of constant sanding. I used my Dremel and completed the job in 5 minutes!! It is now as smooth as a babies bottom both inside and out and at the entry and exit points. My beta LOVES this stone. She uses it to nap in and play in and out of. It’s heavy, sturdy, and attractive. It did not fade, crack, or lose any color by sanding it. It’s heavy enough too. Not cheap. I am 100% satisfied.

Came on time in good condition (not broken).I really liked that these two rocks can be separated apart from one another or stacked fairly securely.Turned out I only needed the bigger of the two. The bigger of the two is about the size of a Sam’s Club Rotisserie chicken bodyhahaha.. I mean.. it’s a fish rock review, had to keep it interesting.A little rough in texture, had to sand it down a bit. Hence the 4 star. I would have given it 5 stars otherwise because the size is perfect and will most likely fit any size tank and most any average sized fish… except Betta ( it would be too rough for them )All my fat goldfish love it! A few of them even sleep in it at night.Side note: I also read that ominous one star review about this product killing someone’s fish?Umm… No.This should not happen and I doubt this stone was the cause. Do be sure to rinse it thoroughly with cold water as one should do with any product prior to putting it in their tank. I even waited some time before leaving this review so that I could ensure that this product is not going to kill your fish in a week.

A little easy smoothing and these work just fine.
I took a chance on this item, since I had already purchased the in-store version and found it met my aquas aping needs. While there seems to be a quality difference from the store-bought version and the ones from Amazon, I donât agree with all the reviews bashing the quality of these hideaway caves.They are made from compressed sand, but while sharp, the rough edges are easy to smooth away with your hands under warm water, and any unsightly seams or super tough areas can be sanded really easily with some sand paper or a small Dremel tool. Sonsodering this is a mass-produced item, I donât expect the fit-and-finish to be the same quality as a custom-made ornament.As for the results in my tank â see for yourself in the attached photos. They look great in the tank, and my cichlids really enjoy them. To the extent that theyâre allowed to stop in for a visit, my glofish tetras and Corys also enjoy the caves. No issues to date with fish injuring themselves or any of the other weird comments on low-star reviews.

White film all over after a week
I received the package of 8 rocks/caves and it was packaged very well. Each one was individually wrapped in bubble wrap and all arrived in great condition. I did not notice any odors coming from the items. The rocks/caves have sharp areas. I thoroughly rinsed them and was able to get rid of some of the sharper sections, but they still had some rougher areas than I like. I did place them in the take and thought they looked great, especially with the blue night LEDs on. About a week later I noticed a little white film almost like stretched cotton on one of them, but not any other decor in the tank. As I looked closer, it was all over everyone and inside the medium and large rocks/caves it was almost piles of white filmy cotton stuff (not sure how else to explain). I immediately took them out which caused the white ‘stuff’ to start to come off into the tank. As I was pulling them out, they had a strange odor. I went online to check and agree that it resembles a glue smell. Very disappointed as it started off so promising and I am out a decent chunk of change.

Rough surface, but not what I would characterize as critically dangerous to fish. Rough sand paper like surface, rough, but no very sharp piercing edges.They look good. I got the 8 piece set, no two pieces are identical which is nice. The finish comes naturally from the material used. It is not a simple surface treatment, like paint, used to make the item look like granite, rather this is made of many black and white pieces of resin sand fused together, so the color is inherent to the material. If a piece chipped off, underneath it would keep the same look.Just finished setting up my Aquarium. They look good in the mix of props….. I hope my Java moss does not continue to burn 🙁 cannot tell if it is light intensity or seachem excel overdose 🙁 :(….Anyways, I plan on having small schooling fish who do not generally rest on bottom of the tank, mainly ember tetra, celestial danios, and cherry barbs, so the rough texture of stones wont be an issue. If you have kuhli loaches, or pleco, or other fish that spend a lot of time resting on the substrate, I wouldnt say this item is an absolute “no no”, but keep an eye out to see if they are being hurt by sandpaper like surface of rocks, doubtful, but possible.Overall a very good item, good compromise of realistic finish and function. Only detraction is the roughness of the surface. I have seen other bathroom items do fake granite in the same method, and they sand the surface to make it much smoother. I imagine the same process could have been applied to this product. That said, the rough texture does add a certain rock like dynamic to the appearance that may be lost if it was perfectly smooth, so who knows.

Nada más meterlo en el acuario ya se notó que va soltando micro piedrecitas que se le despegan, que ensucian el agua y perjudican a los peces. No entiendo como venden este tipo de artÃculos para acuarios.
