A fine addition to your wildlife accommodations
I have 14 bird feeding stations and 4 bird baths on 3 sides of my home, but bird baths are a real annoyance, since here in Gulf Florida we have so many mosquitoes. Their larvae require constant emptying and refreshing of the bird baths.This bird waterer is a welcome addition to my yard. It is inexpensive, easy to handle, and seems quite durable. It has taken a while for the birds to gather up enough courage to drink from it, but a titmouse has led the way. I am not sure whether larger birds will follow suit, due to the small size of the unit.The drinking area is too shallow to support mosquito larvae — perhaps the water simply heats up too much in the summer. Thus, I only need to refresh the water supply infrequently. A nylon strap and a carabiner (supplied by me, not included with the bird waterer) make it very easy to remove the waterer for service.5 Stars. And I intend to purchase at least one more!

Good option for offering drinking water for the birds
I purchased the 1.5 qt size late in the summer when I noticed my chickadees kept drinking from the moat in my hummingbird feeder. I have birdbaths, but figured they needed more water. I later figured out that the chickadee was probably looking for dead bugs in the moat, as much as wanting the water. They are still drinking from the moat at times, even with this now available.This is easy to fill but obviously you have to flip it over to hang, so there will be some water splashing out of it. Wait until you are outside and don’t hold too closely to you, if you want to stay dry. When refilling it, hold over a sink and away from you, because the same thing could happen as you flip it to access the bottle opening.No hook comes with it (just the hole on top to hang one from.) This hole is fairly small, so you’ll probably need an additional hook to hang it from a plant hook or something else that is fairly thick. I used a dollar store carabiner to put through the hole and it works pretty well (though it would help if the hole were a bit bigger.I haven’t had much action the rest of the summer with this. But at least I’m offering drinking water to my birds and it seems like a good option. I suppose an animal could break it, or a bad storm destroy it, but it is fairly sturdy plastic and has held up, so far.

Tray is not deep enough
This is a great concept. The water tray is very shallow compared to others. This is an issue and only small birds try the eater. I have this and a deeper tray water feeder and they prefer the deeper watering tray. The others dont hold as much water. I wish this would have a deeper tray then would be perfect.

Needs hole drilled in the neck at the desired water line
It does not let water flow into the tray until a hole is drilled into the neck of the bottle at where you want the water top fill line to be in the water tray. I did just that and it works now that the air vacuum was partially eliminated. In simple terms it is now letting in air so the water can flow. Simply screw the bottle on all the way before you drill so the holes line up on both the water tray and the bottle when hole is done. Also do not drill the hole above the water tray or all the water in the bottle will flow out. I am now going to work on a extended wooden perch with dowel rods to add to the water tray and may help the birds access the thing easier.

Used to make sure the bees have water in the summer, haven’t been watching to see if any birds or bees use it. It’s small, but exactly what I was looking for and very easy to refill. We attached it to a tree with a piece of rope and it’s withstood a couple of seasons (snow, rain, heat) so great purchase at a good price.
