Good size door for large cats.
This was an exact replacement for the pet door purchased about five-years ago so that our one cat, Lefty (who was a big boy), could come and go as he pleased through the basement’s rear entry. It has worked well since originally installed, and the locking system has proven both effective and durable over time (the lock mechanism for our garage’s pet door–produced by a different manufacturer–fell apart after only a couple of years). The reason we needed this replacement is because Junior (another of our crew and the newest addition) sometimes passes through the cat door at 100 mph and the last time doing so split the clear-plastic door flap in half. This leads me to my one complain about the door’s MANUFACTURER, not the product itself. PetSafe, your company needs to start offering JUST the door flap as a stand-alone replacement part as you have for other door models. There is no reason why consumers of your product must be forced to purchase an entire new pet door when they should be able to obtain–at a much lower cost to them–the single item needed to repair what they already have. Please, PetSafe, CHANGE YOUR PARTS POLICY! Otherwise, as word gets around, you risk alienating people from recommending what is really a fine product to other potential customers.

Cat Door 2.0 is a mixed bag for me.PRO: The locking mechanism is far better than 1.0 – but we rarely use it.PRO: It is a tad sturdierCON: Knob on bottom pushes cat door up – and this is particularly an issue when the floors aren’t at the same level – such as laundry room to garage landing. In my case it’s an additional 2.5″ and I can’t average the heights. I can only set the bottom at the bottom edge of the door and the cat has to deal with it.CON: Just bulkier. It doesn’t kinda blend it – it demands some attention. The lock doesn’t cut into the door (good) but then the entire mechanism needs to be enclosed. Making for a very bulky interior look and a fairly bulky exterior look.Installation Tip: If you line the bottom of the housing with the bottom of the solid part (not wipes) of the door – you’ll find the height about perfect (for same inside/outside heights). Then use a Tri or framing square on the bottom to align the bottom of the frame with the door. Now mark the top edge of the tunnel insert portion on the door. You now have a perfect top edge to align the cut guide to to mark the rest of your cuts.Do NOT just measure and mark and cut your door for the shoulder line desired (and ensure you take into account the height of the bottom of the door above carpet – and esp exterior transoms. If you do – you’ll probably up with the cut too low and the plastic not high enough. So you can do it this way but DO then set the actual frame on the marked cut jig/lines and ensure the bottom edge is at or higher than the bottom of the door. Ask me how I know.

Our cats love it
I like the multiple type of locking function. This way we can lock it to where cats can come in in the evening but not go back out till we unlock it the next morning. We also lock it from in and out after the 2 cats come in so no unexpected creatures can get into our garage. It was fairly easy to install. We were able to put it in the bottom of our overhead garage door like we wanted to. Cats learned within a couple hours how to go in and out. It looks good and not really noticeable in our overhead garage door like we were hoping. It’s only been in a couple weeks and are happy with it. Especially glad we don’t have to leave our overhead door open at the bottom for cats to go in and out all day Our garage got snakes in it in the summer and full of leaves and mice coming in through the fall (luckily our 2 cats kill the mice) it also cut down tremendously the cold air coming in the garage. We are very satisfied with this product and highly recommend it.ONLY thing is the little plastic door for the first week was fairly stiff and not shutting completely in or out. But after a week we notice it’s getting better at closing completely)

It works well. It seems sturdy enough. It was easy to install as long as you follow the instructions and take your time.
