Great Fun for the Whole Mousie Family!
YES, MESH WHEELS CAN BE OK — FOR MICE. They grip the mesh with their toes as they run and do not get bumblefoot. In fact, I think my mice prefer the mesh wheels to solid plastic — they probably feel more secure when the wheel goes faster than their little legs and they spin over the top. I always preferred the Silent Spinners myself, but a mouse wants what a mouse wants…I found it ironic that my “random” color wheel turned out to be pink right when it was intended for the girls… They LOVE their wheel. They co-run a lot, and frequently the biggest mouse will get going fast and the others will just hold on and go for a ride…round and round and round…This wheel DOES get squeaky, as a mouse’s running causes the paint to rub off at the spot where the wheel turns (via friction), but I just rub a little cooking oil (I use sunflower seed oil) on the bar where the wheel spins AND IT’S SILENT. I can be sitting on the couch next to them and not even know they’re running. Quieter than a Silent Spinner, imo. And added bonus (in their minds, I’m sure), they’ll lick the extra oil with happy tongues — when no one is running, of course. This wheel also makes me slightly happier on Cleaning Day — yes, it’s going to be encrusted with pee (mice do that) — but at least their poopies are not smashed all over. Those mostly tend not to stick, what with centripetal force and all. So I will have a few little mouse poos magically stuck halfway up the wall of their glass aquarium, but overall cleanup is SO MUCH LESS GROTTY than a solid wheel. Soap and hot water (and no 10 extra minutes scraping off leftovers) = clean! So buy this wheel…YOUR MOUSIE FRIEND WILL THANK YOU.
Cat wheel. Easy assembly. Nice item. –

Safest wire wheel on the market, and my mice LOVE it
I read a lot about wheels before I chose which ones I wanted for my mice. I learned that this style of wire wheel is far safer than others due to the arched stand, and mesh is of course much safer than wire bars. I hope that one day they come out with a mesh wheel in the same style as the Silent Spinner, because with this product, there is still a small risk – but because my mice get MUCH more exercise and stimulation with a mesh wheel, I decided that it’s worth it. I can’t protect them against all possible dangers, and exercise and stimulation are very important for captive mice. That small remaining risk is why I rated this product 4 stars instead of 5. I have been using it for about two months now, and I think it’s fantastic. My girls love, love, love this wheel! They grip the mesh with their feet and tails and spin loop-the-loops. They can easily run in pairs due to its 8″ circumference and ~3″ width and don’t accidentally knock each other off, as they did with smaller wheels. I recommend getting the largest size that your rodent can handle because they’ll be more comfortable and won’t have to arch their spines as much. This size wheel fits in a 10-gallon glass fish tank on top of 3″ of bedding. This wheel does become squeaky if you don’t oil it. I clean my mouse tanks every 3-7 days and always rinse the wheel in the sink and then spray the axle with vegetable oil. It’s safe for them to lick (and they do love to lick it!) and completely eliminates squeaking. I do recommend frequent washing, since for some reason it gets much stinkier than plastic wheels; I just hold it under the tap and then wipe the axles with a paper towel to remove old vegetable oil, then dry it off and re-oil it. I have occasionally heard it rattle, but this only happens when I accidentally place it so that it touches the glass tank, and this is easily fixed. If you want to read more about mouse wheels and mouse care, I recommend thefunmouse.com.

Just needs a little vaseline
This wheel is gerbil-perfect! Bought it to put in my gerbils’ home cage while they’re with me at home for the summer. It fits perfectly in their 20gal long tank. No parts that are chewable for them. Only thing it needed was some vaseline where the wheel attaches to the base, otherwise it squeaks… but it’s a metal wheel so that’s to be expected! Easy fix for a great product.

Mouse Loves It.
I bought this wheel for a wild baby mouse I raised. She loves it. I’ve had it for close to a year now and it’s still working just fine. Since I’ve had it for so long, I can comment about certain aspects of the wheel with certainty.1. The wheel I received is well made and it still going strong.2. Even though the wheel itself if still holding up, what isn’t is the paint. I live in a humid area. The moisture in the air has flaked the paint right off, leaving a rusted wheel behind. So if you live in a humid area, I would skip this wheel.3. The wheel does squeak. It started when there was still paint on it and has gotten worse now that it’s rusted. Whenever I clean the cage, I dip a cotton swab in olive oil and rub it on the joints of the wheel and that stops the sound.I will be purchasing a different wheel, only because I don’t like the flaked paint and rusty wheel. Otherwise, I’d keep it.

not safe for the animal and creaks very loudly
There is a very loud creaking sound, it is unbearable when the animal starts running at night. There is a metal bar in the middle, when the animal runs it can accidentally fall out of the viburnum and hurt itself on this bar!!!

Sturdy.
Big and well made. Very sturdy. It can either stand or hang hooked from a cage. Wheel moves smoothli and no sharp edges. Would be big enough for a hedgehog.
