    Great product
Very pleased with product. 24 inch is perfect size for a small milkweed plant with plenty room to spare for my monarchs to attach and spread their wings. Promot delivery allowed me to transfer my caterpillars from a cardboard box and now I can watch them, move them and clean up their space without disturbing them. Great design with viewing vinyl side and protected zipper flap. Managed to nurture 11 butterflies in cold nights weather and send them off on their journey. Cleaned it and folded to put away easily.

Flexible size to flexible price for Monarch butterfly restoration
The cage basically last on average 2-years due to UV sun damage, but will fit 2-3 milkweed plants. I line the bottom with newspaper to make easy cleanup from the Monarch caterpillar frass which drop on the paper. Depending what stage you place the caterpillar instars, the mesh on the cage will keep out parasitic flies and wasps/hornets. The mesh on top allows the caterpillars to j-hang when the time comes. They seem to j-hang on the cage corners or if you place some shade (tape/paper, etc) secured over the top of the cage. The two zippers on the door allow for easy access and the clear plastic side panel for easy viewing. I place mine on the patio table sometimes with the umbrella up, depending on the sunlight for the milkweed. Great learning tool at a reasonable price. Plus you are aiding in the survival rate of Monarch butterflies.

    Butterfly Cage
This is a great cage for my Painted Butterfly Caterpillars. Its well made including the inside protective zipper. The only problem for me is, it should have another opening, (2-openings), because the caterpillars do gravitate toward the zipper and now I have to wait for the chrysalis to harden to add another caterpillar.

Just trying to save the world
I can’t do much to save Rhinos or Great Apes, but I do live in Monarch butterfly territory and can try and do my part. I planted milkweed in my yard and was able to find some new monarch eggs and start the process of sending out some monarchs into the world. I raised 5 very hungry caterpillars and was able to release 5 beautiful monarchs. This enclosure worked well for my first year, but I may get a taller one next year. It was a little tricky to get out my taller milkweed plants through the side opening with dropping caterpillars. They did seem to like the mesh top and climbed right up to there to form their chrysalis. Pretty easy clean out and seemed like good quality. The one plastic side helped with good viewing.

    Monarchs Hatched
The clear plastic panel makes watching caterpillars and chrysalises easy. The zippered side gives good access to coax butterflies out of enclosure once they emerge. We watched 4 butterflies “hatch” and released them once they could fly (takes from 5-24 hours). The cage is large enough to put a one gallon planter with milkweed inside to feed caterpillars as they grow. Caterpillar can attach chrysalis to top of netting, but most of ours chose a branch of the milkweed.Only con is that butterflies try to fly up to light and need help getting out of zipper side–important to get them to step onto a cut flower or your finger and take them out that way; don’t touch wings. Top opening would be better.Have not been able to try to wash cage as one chrysalis is still attached. Also too soon to tell how long it will hold up, but worth $15 to save 5 butterflies from predator yellow jackets who attacked one caterpillar in our yard before our eyes.

Perfect! Caterpillars thrive and it’s easy to use/maintain!
This enclosure is SO easy to use. What I love the most about it is that the caterpillars appear to feel at home in it. My previous attempts at supporting them yielded low success rates. With this enclosure, I can enjoy watching them through the large clear window which is one entire wall, I can easily access them because one whole net wall is a door with a two directional/ two headed zipper so you can zip it in either direction, and the caterpillars successfully attach to the net ceiling and you can watch for the chrysalides to hatch. The grandbabies LOVED watching the caterpillars! So do I! And with the monarch butterfly population suffering losses as it is, it sure would be great if everyone had one of these and a handful of milkweed plants to help them out. Tip: lay paper towels on the floor of the enclosure. You need to clean out the caterpillar poo daily, and it’s easier to lift out the paper towel and shake it out rather than to pick up one piece of poo at a time. Lol ew! Great product! Highly recommend!
