Significantly reduces mess
I love this. The purchase was for two main reasons and it accomplishes both.1) My parrotlet is mean and I got tired of him biting when we stuck our hand in to feed. This also made it easier for anyone to feed him. The little kids were not willing to help and get bit. Now I can just remind anyone to feed him and itâs easier because itâs on the outside of the cage.2) He is messy AF. This nearly eliminated the mess. Solved.I do believe the reservoir is the best part. When I mix his food with seeds etc, he tends to pick out only what he wants, naturally. Before, the rest of the food would fly everywhere as he digs for his choice. Now, everything just falls in the reservoir, and when it gets full I just pour back into the top. It has saved so much food waste!You still have to know your bird and not just rely on a new feeder to do everything for you. My bird likes to grind his pellets down, so the bottom reservoir gets filled fast. If you donât want it to make a mess when you pull it out, you canât wait too long. Know your bird.It holds a lot of food, but I donât use it for that. Itâs not a replacement babysitter. If youâre not going to be home for a week, get a sitter. I have so much sympathy for the patron that said their bird passed after leaving it food for a few days and leaving out of town. And I donât want to judge, but please donât rely on a feeder for babysitting.She said in her review that the bigger sized food didnât fit thru the feeder slot as well as she thought. I am grateful for that review because it made me aware of what to look out for. At the same time, when I poured in the food for the first time, I just naturally checked to see if it was coming out, soâ¦. But still, the review made me more aware, so I make sure to use a chop stick to stir up the bottom if Iâm getting paranoid. But with my birds smaller pellets, nothing is an issue. If you have bigger birds and seeds, CHECK BEFORE YOU LEAVE YOUR BIRD ALONE. But that should be an obvious observation.Best purchase, would buy again if needed.

I have 3 Quaker parrots and this has made my life easier! They still make a mess but itâs cut my daily feeding routines after work tremendously everyday! Highly recommend. Doesnât fit all cages but I made it work on all 3 cages.

Works as shown; limited mounting options
First off, this feeder does work. It took our three male parakeets two weeks to start using it, but no issues now. It holds about 7days worth of seed and the collection bin arrangement does its job. No mess.Having said that, I have two gripes–One, not all cages are made to accommodate this type of feeder, which is intended to be mounted on the outside, and I wasn’t down for hacking a hole in the front of mine.So, to use it, I had to drill another mounting hole so the feeder could be hung inside, from the back. The trade-off being that I now physically have to take it down to refill it and clean the waste collection bin.This feeder could have easily been made to mount either way.Two, IMHO it’s just not made very well for the $15 price point. It has to be pure profit for whoever made it. Cheap acrylic construction, I seriously doubt it would survive one good drop onto a hard floor.Again, this feeder does work, which gives me peace of mind, and it cuts down on the mess. I would have gladly paid a few extra bucks for a better version though–

KILLED MY BIRD!
Do not buy if you have a Quaker, conure or love bird. This is designed only for small birds maybe finches or parakeeTs. We had another self feed bowl from Petco but were going to be away for a couple of days so decided to buy this last minute for our conure. Two days later we came back home (not the first time we have been away and left him plenty food and water) he was always fine for a couple but this time our bird was dead. The pellets were stuck when I checked they hadnât been going down and the bird hadnât been able to eat at all ððð we are completely heartbroken and still mourning our little buddy. He crossed over the rainbow and all because we trusted this product! Please do not buy for your bigger parrots

It would be great for feed that was strictly small seeds
Great concept, but not for all birds. I expect this feeder would be awesome for those who feed a mix of all small seeds (millet size) anything much larger than that gets hung up and stops the flow of food. My lovebird mix was constantly wedged so if I didn’t manually clear it every couple hours they would have no seed coming into the dish. Wish it would have worked for us, seems like a great way to eliminate most of waste from messy eaters, and was easy to fill and clean. The constant monitoring and fishing larger seeds out wasn’t worth the hassle.

We bought this feeder to help reduce the mess our 4 budgies make with seed husks. This feeder fits nicely on our cage opening, easy to fill and the pullout tray for seed husks works great. Our budgies had no problem figuring it out. Works so good we are buying another one so we have lots of feed when we are away.

For anyone who is worried about this working for their budgies or smaller birds, I can confirm that my two adopted adult budgies learned how to use it in a week. The adult budgies I have were two years old and had never used this type of feeder, yet they still learned how to use it within days. Please disregard any reviews that say that their budgie couldn’t find the food… They probably didn’t give the bird enough time to get used to it. The birds get curious after a while and will look for the food.About the product itself: This feeder is going to save you from a lot of clean up time chasing after empty seed shells! It’s such a great way to feed you birds and be sure that they always have new seeds to eat. The only reason I am giving 4 stars instead of 5 is because the metal bolt that screws the feeder to the cage is a little short. Check out the pictures I post to see what I mean. I had to really push the metal cage against it to secure the bolt to the cage. I can probably buy my own longer bolt, but this is something the seller should consider changing themselves considering the extremely high price for a domestic bird feeder. Other than that though, I got it to stay on and my birds now love this all-you-can eat feeder.
