FILTRATION: Purigen ranges in color from almost white (cream) to light yellow. Seachem Purigen is not a mixture of ion exchangers or adsorbents, but a unique macro-porous synthetic polymer that removes soluble and insoluble impurities from water.
SELECTIVITY: Seachem Purigen is an organic filtration resin that works hard to remove nitrogenous compounds and waste produced by fish, corals, and even plants, making your water crystal clear.
CAPACITY: Being both spherical and macroreticular, Seachem Purigen has microscopic pores that increase its usable surface area to many times that of a purely spherical resin.
REGENERATION: Once Seachem’s Purigen is exhausted, it can be regenerated with a solution of bleach and water. The bleach will literally “burn off” the organics that have been removed from the tank.
SAFETY: Some slime coat products may permanently foul Purigen and render regeneration difficult. Do not reuse if odor of bleach/chlorine is detectable. In case of doubt, soak beads in small quantity of water and test for residual chlorine with a chlorine test kit.
Age Range Description: All Stages

Crystal Clear Water Achieved with Seachem Purigen!
**Title: Crystal Clear Water Achieved with Seachem Purigen!**
I canât recommend Seachem Indoor Purigen Organic Filtration Resin enoughâit truly is the secret to crystal clear water in my 80-gallon turtle aquarium. This product has exceeded all my expectations in maintaining water quality.
Purigen works wonders in both freshwater and saltwater tanks. It effectively removes organic impurities, leaving the water exceptionally clear and clean. Despite having turtles, which tend to create a lot of waste, my aquariumâs water remains pristine, thanks to this remarkable filtration resin.
The resin is easy to use and regenerates effortlessly, making it a cost-effective solution for long-term use. Iâve noticed a significant reduction in odor and an overall improvement in the health and appearance of my tank inhabitants.
If youâre struggling to keep your aquarium water clear, especially with high bio-load tanks, Seachem Purigen is a game-changer. Highly recommend for anyone seeking top-notch water quality!

Great
I’m using this stuff in 2 tanks: a 60ish gallon tank with fairly big fish (pink tail chalceus, leaf fish, pictus catfish, etc) and a 40 gallon bowfront with a large goldfish and some minnows. Purigen seems to work exceptionally well for keeping your fish healthy and water clean & clear. Despite minimal maintenance on the tanks, everyone who come to the house remarks how pristine the water is.
I still battle high nitrates because of the tap water we have, but using this, Seachem matrix, and plopping some pothos plants into the tank seems to help a lot. I use significantly less activated charcoal now (and also have to pull my cannister filters apart much less which is nice) and believe this will save quite a lot of money in the long run compared with just using activated charcoal.
My only gripe is that it’s hard to find mesh bags that this stuff works in. Most of the bags I’ve looked at have too big of holes and this stuff just leaks out over time. I’ve settled on “Geiserailie 150 nm filter media bags”, which work well and are reasonably priced (as of 1/29/24 it’s $12.99 for 15 bags). I haven’t tried to “recharge” my purigen yet, but next filter maintenance I’m pretty sure I’ll need to swap it out for a new bag and recharge what I’ve been using. I’ve read the bags may break down in the bleach solution, but at least than $1/bag that’s not a big deal if it does happen.
If you have a small-ish setup, I’d recommend just buying the pre-bagged purigen they offer. If you need a lot or for multiple tanks, this is a better option.
Purigen will definitely stay in my filters moving forward.

You can discard a lot of clutter and have balanced and crystal clear water
An absolute marvel in aquarium keeping. As an addition to my mechanical and biological filtration, I’ve “loaded up” on purigen in my canister filters and the results are stunning! No more specialized media and no more chasing water parameters. HOORAY!!!

Takes impurities out of water.
Put one or two of these as the last thing in your filter water path. The packs start out as white and over time absorb impurities in the water that the filters can’t. The results is that water impurities your filters miss will get absorbed by this and the water will be very clear. Always be sure your physical filters are filtering out the vast majority of the physical debri in the water to avoid clogging these too quickly.
When they turn from white to brown, its time to change them out. They are somewhat expensive to replace all the time but many people will just replace them with new ones.
But if you want to take an extra amount of time, you can recycle the spent packs and save yourself some money. Usually these can be recycled 3 or 4 times and reused till they fail to clean anymore.
To recycle packs, get a tupperware like container you will only use for the recycling purpose. Be sure to never use it for food again. Put your spent packs into it and fill it to the brim with chlorine bleach. Put a lid on it if you want to comtain the bleach smell. Leave it for a day or two but be sure all the packs stay submerged. After a day or two, the stuff that was in the Purigen has dissolved into the bleach. The Purigen will be mostly white or yellow. Pour out the bleach and thoroughly rinse everything with tap water. Put the packs back into the container and this time put tap water into it with a heavy dose of Seachem Prime or antichlor product. This removes the chlorine from the pacs over the next day or two. Rinse it all again. Now the nearly white Purigen packs are ready to go back into a filter the next time you do a change. After a few times of recharging, the packs will have less and less turn back to white and you just have to discard and replace them. Hopes this helps you save some money by reusing Purigen.

This is a miracle product. I had cloudy water in a 45g tank with 9 X 5â goldfish. A challenge for any filter and tank. My readings were way out so tried this.
I bought 4 bags and place two in the chemical end of my sun sun 3000 hw filter.I have a mechanical tray of course medium and fine foams and two trays of lava rock. I clean the filter every two weeks and purigen is brown. I swap out the two purigen replacing about 10gallons of water each time.
I rinse the lava rock in water taken from tank to keep my biological media intact.
I place the used purigen in 3/4 water to approx 1/4 bleach over night. Then rinse thoroughly bright white purigen and place in one cap of prime to fresh water in container and leave till needed.
Repeat every two weeks leaving me a crystal clear tank and happy fish
