Customers find the sand excellent for shrimp tanks, with one noting it’s the best substrate available. The product receives positive feedback for its appearance, ease of cleaning, and water clarity, with one customer mentioning it keeps water around 6.0 pH. The durability and plant suitability receive mixed reviews – while some praise its quality, others report it breaking down into black powder, and while many find it suitable for carpeting plants, one notes it’s not very suitable for planted tanks.

It was easy to rinse and settled quickly. My aquarium fish, shrimp and snails really seem to like it!

    Looks great, required little rinse
Good quality substrate. It’s much less of a sand and more of tiny beads. This is working great as a base substrate for my plants, so far i’ve been able to grow some carpeting plants pretty easily. Roots dont struggle to get through it.I hardly had to rinse this at all before water coming through was totally clear, the cleanest substrate ive used by far but YMMV on that.My only real complaints are:The price per pound, bought 4lbs for $24 and that was hardly half of what You’d need for a planted 10gal tank. The weight of the substrate is insignificant enough that it is difficult to get plants to stay down. I did need to get a heavier substrate to mix in for that. All in all 8/10, Just wish I got more for my money and that it was a bit heavier.

    Up Aqua Shrimp Sand
This is the best substrate you can get for you shrimp tank. I put the sand in a tank that was running already with a bare bottom. When I poured the sand in it created no dust at all and no ammonia what so ever. The shrimp can also dig in the light sand to find left over food, overall it is a great looking sand.

    Holds up
I have used this substrate in two different tanks now, and have enjoyed it. It is cheaper in cost than most other substrates, holds up well and looks great. I am not too sure about its buffering power as I use RO water in my tanks, but it works for what I need it for. I use 1 bag to cover up about 3/4s of a 8 gallon fish tank (sand in the 1/4) and it is enough to build slopes and low spots as needed without any egg crate beneath it.

Great stuff, if you can find it
Love this stuff for calling flourite in our shrimp tanks. It is clean, no mess, and it keeps the water around 6.0 ph.The only problem is they are always out and I can’t get any. Been waiting for them to get more back in, but I am not holding my breath and am looking for other options. Shame because I love the product.UPDATE: Tank with our Taiwan bee /hybrid bee shrimp has been up over a year, using this stuff capping some Flourite. Still keeps its shape, and the tank is ultra healthy, with a good number of berries shrimp and babies on a regular basis. Highly recommended!

    Gets grainy, muddy water
After some water changes and cleanings, it started getting grainy and almost like a muddy clay. This is only after two washes. My water was super cloudy afterward no matter how many times I changed it. I had to use AccuClear, and then my fish died eventually, I’m suspecting from extremely, extremely hard water due to the dust from these. They look great though.
