Great combination of church and AA
This is one of the best books I’ve ever read regarding the 12 steps of Alcoholics Anonymous. John has done extensive research and read Many books to be able to write this book, He never says that he is a member of Alcoholics Anonymous but he sure has a great understanding of what goes on in AA meetings and in the AA Society. I would recommend this book to anyone that would really like to improve their life. Right now at our church the minister is preaching on the steps and continues to reference this book. I have selected several books from the notes in the back of the book to purchase and to read. John is an incredible writer and speaker. I’ve heard him preach several times and it’s always inspiring and educational.

12 Steps to Freedom
I highly recommend Steps by John Ortberg. As a recovering alcoholic who has been sober for over 25 years, I have read countless books on the Twelve Steps, but this one stands above the rest. Steps is not just about addiction. It is about the things that keep all of us stuck: fear, shame, control, trauma, and the struggles we carry but rarely talk about.Ortberg brings a depth of wisdom and honesty that sets this book apart. He writes not just as a pastor or a teacher but as someone who has wrestled through pain and brokenness. His words arenât just insightful, he lives them.I truly believe this book has the potential to change how people, especially the church, understand the Twelve Steps. It is more than a recovery tool, it is a path to healing, freedom, and profound transformation for anyone willing to take it. Ortbergâs gift is in how he tells the story, weaving together truth, struggle, and hope in a way that pulls you in.This book takes you to the hardest places but doesnât leave you there. It walks you through the valleys and points you toward something greater. It is a journey worth taking, everyone should read this book.

Help For the Everyday
This book by Pastor John Ortberg, takes the well-worn principles of Alcoholics Anonymous and applies them to issues we encounter in everyday life. If you want a better, more meaningful life, this book will help you achieve that goal.

Gets better as you go
I like both authors, although I like Dallas Willard more. While there is clearly a market and need for such a book, I am not it. Sorry guys.Update. It improved significantly about a third of the way through.

Incredible.
This is John Ortberg’s masterpiece. I’ve been a Christian longer than I’ve been an AA, but man: so many of the thoughts John shares here just had me nodding and triple underlining. Can’t recommend enough for folks who have seen a 12 step miracle or are living inside of one. Mad respect, John.
