Fits very well
The dog I purchased this for is a 17 lb half-dachshund who is recovering from having a cyst removed from his back. A cone large enough to keep him from being able to lick or chew his incision would make it difficult for him to get around, so having an old novelty Christmas sweater for him, I put it on and he left his wound alone. Ordered this one and it came quickly and fits really well on him. Ordered more colors. The green one came next. It fits identically to the red one and is really nice – soft, stretchy, stays in place, is clearly comfortable for him. The baby blue one came today and the knit pattern is different and it is much, much smaller and less stretchy. It is clearly uncomfortable on him, and I am returning that one. There is a pink one that will come later and I hope it is made like the red and the green one, and NOT like the baby blue one. From earlier reviews, I suspect the baby blue one is back inventory from before they changed the fabric to be stretchier – also the knit on the underside is done differently. The stretchier ones are ribbed, although not cable ribs, on the underside – while the non-stretchy, smaller baby blue one is plain knit (no ribs) on the underside. Also received a red size L today for his brother (they’re littermates) who is taller, broader, and weighs 27 lbs. It fits fine and is clearly from the same stretchier fabric with the ribbed underside. Also ordered some extras in different colors for him, and hope they are the newer, stretchier design as well.

Originally ordered a large based on size chart and it was small for an 11 lb digg so returned it and ordered an XL. It is far too large. Such a difference between L and XL. Will have it altered. Great sweater, material and turtleneck collar.

Not a Good Fit for Short-Legged Breeds
I give this 3 1/2 stars. I ordered this in 3 sizes for 3 dogs. The sweaters are attractive and well made. However, none of them fit my dogs well. The small didn’t work for my 7# chiweenie because the leg holes are too big for her tiny legs which fell out of the holes when she sat down. Also, the sweater didn’t cover enough of her chest to keep her warm. Admittedly she’s a hard dog to fit unless velcro is involved so I don’t think she’s cut out to be a sweater girl. Dog 2 is a 10# miniature poodle and the med. barely covered any of her chest although the sweater fit the back area well. The large was for my dachsund mix whose legs are too short for this style. Basically I’d say this sweater is a no go for short legged breeds. Those breeds do better with vests and jackets with 2 velcro straps-one for the neck and one across the middle…my dogs can’t get out of those and they’re easy on easy off.

Love this sweater, I used it many times this summer on cold nights when we sat outside by the fire! I think my pup loved it as well……kept him warm.
