Does not work. UPDATE It was just a lemon
This product does not work. I installed it according to instructions and waited the correct amount of time before turning it on and it just doesn’t work at all. I have this for a hatchling YBS 10 gallon tank. Cannot figure out how to contact the seller either.UPDATE: Turns out I was looking for a contact for Tetra when Amazon was the seller. My bad! Any way I initiated a return and they sent me a replacement that works perfectly. It arrived in 2 days and I can drop off the defective one within about 3 weeks at a UPS without even printing a label so I don’t even have to deal with refunds for postage or anything. It took about 5 seconds to handle once I realized I was being an idiot.Works great, automatically set to 78 F which is perfect for my baby slider and I have a temp gun to check. So far as soon as the red indicator light comes on I check it and it is right on 77F, and then the indicator light turns off when the temp hits 79 so that is a nice tight little range. I love it. So does my baby. He’s so small that he wedges himself between the cord and the side of the tank and passes out like a toddler. In case anyone was concerned, the red indicator light can be easily seen in daytime light but is not a nuisance in the dark. The cord is a nice length and very sturdy and the suction cups are large and powerful. The nice plastic casing around the heater will keep my hatchling from chomping on it when he gets bigger. You literally just tick it in the tank, fill her up, wait 15 min, plug in and you are done. 10/10 recommend, I just happened to get a lemon the first time.

    Definitely recommend
Way cheaper than PetSmart or other places. It works and it lasts. I use it in my turtle tank. Doesn’t take up much space, it puts of no noise at all it comes apart for cleaning and it is easy to use and install. There is nothing adjustable or speeds it has its own temp and will got off and on when the temperature gets below what it is set to be. Always go buy Watts when buying also depends on the size of your tank but well worth it for the money

    Nice for the money
This is a pretty inexpensive heater for a turtle tank. It keeps my 35-gallon tank at a nice cozy 70 degrees (F). Though I have only had it a few days, it seems to be working well and the cage is nice so my turtle cannot hurt herself or the heater. Since she just loves destroying the things we put in her tank, that is really saying something. For the first couple days, we turned off her heat lamp to see how the heater preformed by itself with good results. Of course because it is a turtle, we normally keep a heat lamp on her to create a hot basking spot, which also helps heat the water. If you read some of the other reviews, you notice that the heater does not keep the water as hot as it is set for, which really shouldn’t be an issue. It is the perfect product if you want to keep the chill off the water, especially at night or during the winter. Because you need to have a UV lamp for your turtles health, this heater should be just fine for your needs. It got only four stars because it took more than a month to get here.

Useless – PLEASE don’t waste your money on this or ANY presets!
I learned this the hard way. My 54 year old slider became ill and all the vet websites said how crucial it is to maintain a steady warm water temp while trying to help him recover. Naturally, my latest glass heater had recently broken, and since I’d gone through more glass tube heaters than I could count throughout the years, I thought I’d go a different route this time and ordered this encased type. I was also tempted to buy this one because after all, it had the Tetra Repto name, a company division supposedly geared to the reptile world. I did not realize it was preset to a certain temp and could not be adjusted by any means. What a mistake! Its only pros are that its suction cups tended to stay in place better than many of its predecessors, and its case is easy to remove to clean. Now, if only it would have actually heated the water! No matter where I placed it within the tank, I could not get it to go above 76 degrees, a temp which is too low as a good maintenance temp that vets recommend for turtles even when they are in good health. For heaven’s sake, it only had to heat 4 gallons of water and it couldn’t do it!! This is particularly confusing to me, since the target demographic for this product is aquatic turtles. So there I was, with a sick turtle and no way to get the water temp up high enough to help him. I had to dry dock him under towels for three days till a new, adjustable heater arrived. I’m so grateful he was able to hold on. He looked so bad, reddish mucus everywhere and he really seemed to be failing. I was bracing myself, almost positive I would lose him. Thankfully, the new adjustable heater came, I got the water up to the recommended therapeutic temperature and he eventually pulled through. I was REALLY lucky. I’m very bummed, though, because I had much going on around here and managed to miss the return deadline, so I’m stuck with this thing. Another point to keep in mind if you are considering this type of heater: A turtle’s health can change on a dime, as I learned late on that Saturday night. What will you do if your little guy takes sick and you can’t immediately provide him with the extra bump in temp you need to give him the warmth his body needs to at least try to help him recover? Those first hours can be critical. All I can say is, keep looking. Preset types in general are just a bad idea. Decent adjustable ones ARE out there and I did find a really good yet affordable one, in the same price range as this Repto model. I’m grateful that I now have a fully submersible, accurate, easily adjustable heater, without glass tubes and encased in plastic that cleans easily. It’s just a shame that my turtle almost lost his life in the process. I’d love to tell you the name of this better heater, but don’t think Amazon’s review rules would allow it. Bottom line:. As I said, If you care about your turtle, KEEP LOOKING! This is NOT the product to buy!

    Puts out good heat
Have 2 for a unheated sunroom turtle pond. About 100 gallons. Keeps the water a good temperature even when it’s 10 degrees outside.

  7. Reliable in Nova

very reliable and effective trustworthy heater
this tank heater works. it Keeps the temperature in my tank between 76 and 78 when I have no heating lamps on and the tank isn’t under an open window… my little snappers like to get up on it and crawl on top when its time for me to feed them and take them out of the tank they sit there and wait for me to pick them up .. they can’t eat if they are too cold .. if the feeding water tank is too cold or hot or the inside tank is too cold or hot they wont feed properly . so temperature is very important .. this is an excellent product for your turtles.

Thus us my 3rd tetra heater. I know they only last a couple years then need replacing. That’s ok for me.The only issue this time round was the delivery. I ordered 3 products and they all came in one oversized box. The box was crushed so much that my water heater box inside that box was also crushed and my heater was in 2 pieces when I took it out. I was able to reassemble it and it still worked after I tested it luckily enough. I’m usually real happy with the courier Intelcom and prefer them above the others but this was bad service on their part but nothing to do with Tetra. 5 Sars tetra and 2 stars Intelcom courier this time round.

I don’t like this heater it doesn’t work, or it does work but I don’t know its system. First the heater is wrapped in a green plastic led which it melted on the heater therefore cannot use it anymore. Second I don’t know how it works, i believe it’s automatic, but it works for 5 minutes (which to be honest heated the tank pretty well), but then it shut down and didn’t work for a week! I don’t get its algorithm. Like the water is FREEZING cold and it still didn’t heated it, I had it for 3 months and till this day I still don’t know how it works. Honestly don’t buy it, so not worth ur money.

I’ve had it in my 65 gallon for a while now and have had no issues! Kind of annoying to clean because you have to take it apart but if you don’t have a messy turtle it shouldn’t be that big of a deal for you
