The only seed my parakeets will eat
My parakeets are elderly and very picky, they are also rescues, so they were not introduced to a variety of healthy foods and pellets from an early age, which means all they will eat is seed… and they love this Volkman’s blend. I used to buy it from my local bird shop, but after moving I was unable to travel the long distance to restock, I was very happy to find it on Amazon. The order did take a long time to arrive, but that was most likely weather related. Everything arrived in order and so far no issues with the quality. I highly recommend this seed, my babies are 9yrs old, and considering they mostly exist on seed, I believe that speaks volumes for Volkman’s.

Seed Quality You Can Trust
It’s getting harder and harder to find good quality pet bird seed. I dislike buying from our local farm co-op because the seed is often full of webs and moths. The big box stores seem to offer less and less variety, and while their prices are usually cheaper, the quality is visibly inferior.Hooray for Volkman seed products. The birds love Avian Science blends, and it’s no wonder. The parakeet formula consists of white proso millet, canary grass seed, red proso millet, oat groats, flax, corn, rape, hemp, njyer, sunflower, a fruit mix of papaya, pineapple, apple & coconut, carrot, oyster shell, and spinach flakes. Everything my birds like to eat, including treats like oat groats, is in this mix.It’s reassuring to know top-quality seeds can be found online and delivered quickly (via Amazon Prime).UPDATE: What happened to the price of this bird seed? It used to cost $9 (my last purchase was 3-2014 at that price). One month later a 4 lb bag now sells for over $18. Talk about a price hike…I can’t afford it now.ONE MORE UPDATE: Because this parakeet seed regularly fluctuates in price from $9 to over $20, I simply buy two bags at a time when the price is low, not when I really need it. And sometimes the 8 lb bag is cheaper per pound than the 4 lb. bag. Just when you think the price will not go down, it does, so be patient and check often. Not sure if this is crazy supply and demand, getting rid of old stock, profit greed or what?!

My Budgies Love it!
I feed this to my three Budgies as it is a nutritious seed blend. They are fussy eaters but don’t turn up their beaks for this. Well-fed Budgies are happy and healthy Budgies. It is also good value for me.

My Super-Picky Birds Love This!
I have a flock of 8 parakeets. Each one has its own personality and preferences, but they all have one thing in common: they are the most picky and stubborn little goofballs I have ever seen! Getting them to try anything new is worse than trying to get a toddler to eat raw broccoli. (Advance apologies to all the parents who have toddlers who love raw broccoli.) Anyway, the leader of the flock, Moses, approached this new seed with trepidation while the others watched, anxiously. After a moment, he began throwing the seeds out of the dish and all over my carpet. Naturally, Moses had spoken, so all 7 of the others decided it must be poison, so they all avoided it as such. However, my newest rescue bird, Davy, who has not been with us very long, and hence has not had time to be fully indoctrinated into the ways of the flock, cautiously approached another dish that was still full, and he tried it. Then, he dove in!! He loved it so much, his little belly was sticking out and full. Since the others noticed that Davy was having this all to himself, they overrode Moses’ initial judgement, and they all decided to try it. Now I can’t keep the dishes full! Moses even throws the dish off the side of the cage when it is empty. They all are healthy, energetic, and happy. The seed looks great, smells great, and was well-packaged. No sign of moths or webs or weevils. I need to keep this stocked so I do not run out too fast, so I just ordered another bag. I take no chances of facing the wrath of the flock!

This seed mix recommended by experienced friends. Not cheap but didn’t expect it to be. Budgie loves it! while I try to change her to a complete pelletted diet. Looks and feels like quality seed in top condition, well packaged. Would buy again.
