What a bird’s body craves 😉
It’s Brawndo for birds! I live in northern New England, so suet cakes for birds have always been a thing we stock up on approaching winter. I have purchased this brand (and others) in singles at the store, but saw this 10-pack at a great price and went for it. Along with seed feeders, these suet cakes supplement their diet to keep them healthy and breeding. I try to avoid the seeds which attract bluejays/doves/pigeons, as they scare off the smaller birds and their poop mars house and vehicle paint. Also, hawks come in for the bluejays and doves- and then the squirrels, and then cats… Yikes! Anyhow, these suet cakes = Happy birds. Great product.

The birds go absolutely crazy
I got these suet cakes to supplement my tube feeder, and help keep the red-bellied woodpeckers happy. At first it was totally fine. The woodpeckers loved the suet, while the blue jays, doves and smaller birds fussed around with the tube feeder. Then came the grackles. At first the grackles only went for the tube feeder. I thought I was clever and replaced the perch on the tube feeder with a smaller one to dissuade the grackles (and also the doves, but they’re too dumb to know they don’t fit on the smaller perch). The grackles just started eating the suet like crazy. To make matters worse, the blue jays (now too small for the tube feeder) also discovered the suet and go nuts for it!Anyway, these birds are gonna put me in the poorhouse with how much suet they eat. Five stars i guess.

Birds like them
I originally bought these to keep a couple of Woodpeckers away from my Hummingbird feeders and causing a mess. The birds love them and it has also attracted other birds to the new feeder. I would recommend.

Birds enjoy this suet
I am not a bird dietician, so I cannot comment on seed nutrition – when I first ordered this I was a little skeptical. The birds where I live in Northern California, in the country love it. Mostly woodpeckers, blue jays and flickers. However I have seen smaller birds eating it also. Our yard birds have eaten so fast I just ordered a second box. I have bought all kinds of suet from local feed stores – and I would say this is one of the birds favorites. Since it is cooler weather now cannot comment on âmeltingâ. We have never had a flicker eat on suet before, and I love to watch it work and work to get a âchunkâ. The birds and myself recommend.

Good and very slightly not so good
Birds love it, good price. Doesn’t have hard plastic 5 sided cover like other slightly more expensive.I simply reuse the old used covers to help keep my feeder less greasy and little bit cleaner.

We have purchased this product several times. A variety of birds from woodpeckers yo sparrows to jays seem to like it and it is reasonably priced.

NO FANCY PACKAGING
I’ve been buying items such as these from a local store, … these were a bit more expensive but I ran out. My usuals are on sale for 8.00 for 8 items, usual price is 9.99. Found these, though a bit more penny wise per piece, I received 10 for a decent price all considering. The squirrels and starlings have having a field day on anything I’ve put out over my 3 cake feeders. Where I had the woodpeckers (Downies) before, even after a two day loss of feeder, they haven’t been back. The starlings, sparrows, a few nut hatches have been at these, but few woodpeckers that were always here. Granted, it’s early March, but something is missing, and I think it’s the ‘suet’.These cakes are very heavily seeded, … with just enough suet to keep the seeds within it’s cake. Woodpeckers are not great seed eaters, might be the reason they’ve been reluctant to hit these cakes. It’ll be a bit before I’m sure, … but at the present time, these cakes are better for birds that scrape by on finding foods. If one wants food, suet for 4 or so woodpeckers, … I’d suggest something with a heavier suet content.I’ll still use these cakes, … but I’ll definitely make sure I get to the store that carries my old brand that has a higher suet content than these under review. BTW: The ‘woodpecker dough’ is equally worth this review, as they aren’t receptive to that product either. Sometimes the old used product is better than a change, regardless of the reason.

So far the birds wonât eat them. They prefer the other kind I have. These might be a total waste of money.
